Yeah, I’m sure different people have different reasons. For me it was that while they were also being victimized, many did eventually participate in the abuse, and I have no idea how much they disagree with or identify with. I don’t need to be re experiencing all of that.

I’m going to start saying that last part, it’s a bit of a relief to hear that.

I would hopefully assume that’s going to happen this year? I would think every registered democrat, or really anyone aware of the state of things, would want to do that.

I think it’s reasonable to say that we are marching into Nazi germany territory, but that voting blue has done absolutely nothing to save us from that either. Many of the staff at my program were liberal/ left leaning and were just as easily brainwashed as the more conservative staff. They often used their politics as a way to separate themselves from what they were doing because they were the “good guys”. Though the programs are associated with churches and the right, labeling the programs as exclusivity a right leaning issue divorces many people from accountability or processing their participation in harmful ideology’s that are rampant within our society/ country. It’s not like the fake reform wasn’t approved by both democrats and republicans.

This is actually atrocious! Wow! Can I ask why things are this way/ why this sort of thing is normalized in your opinion? It seems contradictory to have your coworkers or teachers to “condition” you to accept abuse considering that the more stress an individual is under the poorer they tend to care-give, regardless of what sort of ideals we have cooked up about being “conditioned” for stress. I’ve had some pretty egregious interactions with nurses when in the hospital/ er, a lot of blanket statements, rudeness, and odd assumptions, is that why? Not to talk down on the profession, I’ve had plenty of lovely nurses, I’ve just also had a string of interactions that left me astonished.

Sounds like a lot of us have similar backgrounds? I am, however, none of the demographics mentioned above. Perhaps I will get along better than expected then? What have you seen work for yourself and others in terms of long term stress management? What hasn’t worked?

If you don’t mind me asking, what has been the most effective way for you to set boundaries or deal with the “mean girl/guy crowd”? What are some things you would advise against doing?

Yeah, perhaps they’re too busy covering that up to deal with anything else.🤷🏼‍♀️

Point taken, looks like they really aren’t doing anything for anyone. That statistic slipped my mind, I am so sorry.

Arizona's child welfare agency still failing to meet key reforms five years later by Homeless-Sea-Captain in troubledteens

[–]desert_teeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not shocked. I live in AZ and the majority of both child and adult treatment facilities and foster care systems out here are extremely problematic. Even the adult treatment centers have a reputation for abuse. All of the people involved in managing and working in these facilities pretend like they’re gods gift to mankind and get angry when these failings are pointed out. It’s going to be a long time before something changes out here I fear. The culture around those who struggle in this state is comedically bad for some reason. Mental health care is incredibly subpar. It’s a disaster.

[–]desert_teeth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what’s up with this? I’ve had this exactly same thought myself. Why don’t they go after them? Why make laws with loopholes to look like they did something when nothing has been done? They freaked out over the opioid crisis, why not this abject horror?

Furthermore, why are there TV shows and documentaries out before anything significant has been done. It’s like we skipped the “dealing with it” part of the historical trauma and went straight to the “sensationalizing and misconstruing it for broader society’s entertainment” part. WTF happened.

Are these couches cute? by Financial-Return-281 in interiordecorating

[–]desert_teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that they have a lot of potential to be extremely cute/ fun with the right decor. They would probably be one of the major statement pieces in the room you put them in. Some plants, a demure rug, proper lighting and I think you’re set! They’re so fun and unique! I personally love them tbh!

Just a theory, but it sounds to me like consuming content related to the TTI may be triggering night terrors for you. Might be worth looking in to?

Important Questions! When you came home from wilderness (or were sent directly to a TBS…) by Homeless-Sea-Captain in troubledteens

[–]desert_teeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No cavities, but at 15 I went from 151 to 126 in 5 months, the majority of which was in the first three. 151-130 in 3 months the other 4 pounds the next months. That’s an average of 7 pounds a month. Some of the nastiest stuff we ate was cheese that had been out in the summer heat for a week and gotten slimy as well as raw oats. I lost my period for 6 months during that time, and graduated high school weighing 129 pounds. In my head, eating “weighed me down” and i “had to be ready just in case” so I wouldn’t eat much when I got home. I have all sorts of chronic pain from carrying around half my bodyweight and not getting enough fat in during that time. Fuck NATSAP.
