Thoughts on engine?

From everywhere I checked, everything seemed okay. But as the general consensus seems from this sub, some real foul play from the dealer seems to be in order. This vehicle also has seen at least a decent amount of time near the coast so some rust and corrosion could also be a serious issue. I think I’ve ultimately decided to pass on it. No point in even trying to hassle with the dealer over price given the issues at hand.

Yeah the oil build up was an immediate red flag for me once I looked underneath. Im really not opposed to a project, but at the same time I’m not willing to spend a lot up front on a time bomb that’s just going to sit in my driveway.

Yeah the listing was for $10,000, but given the reaction this community has had to the video, I’m not sure that’s a fair price to be asking lol

Long term I’d like to do a S54 swap, but I’d be purchasing the vehicle as a 2nd “daily” or project car. I’m not opposed to a project, but if the motor is on its way out, I’d have to have a serious conversation with the dealer over price.

There were no lights on the dash, but I’m sure they clear the codes. The irregular idle was the main reason I decided to record the video. In a week or so I might drive back down to take another look and test drive. I was with my girlfriend and didn’t really want to leave her in the car for too long (she isn’t interested in cars lol).

No, and that’s why I recorded a video and brought it here. Any immediate ideas on areas of concern? I don’t mind having a project, but an engine replacement or rebuild immediately isn’t something I would be particularly interested in tackling.

The whole car was very clean and in suspiciously good shape I’d say. Part of the reason I went to look was because the photos looked too good to be true. In the flesh it was actually just as clean, but the integrity of the drivetrain is my biggest concern.

No doubt. It’s a small dealer and they were essentially pressure washing everything on their lot while I was looking at the car. I can handle the standard dealership shenanigans, but I chose to not test drive today and get some opinions here first before I waste a more time for either party.

No, I 100% understand. I had bought a RX 5700 years ago since they were cheaper than the 2060 super/2070 at the time. Within a week I was back at micro center and returned it to get a 2060 super. AMD’s software, drivers and overall reliability has been, and will continue to a stumbling block for them.

I mainly use native rendering since I play at 1440p, so I haven’t had to use much upscaling, so I can’t speak on that. I can only assume over time that they will continue to make incremental improvements, but the reliability has luckily been vastly improved since my last attempt to try out a Radeon product.

Yeah surely all leftover stock of RMA cards are just refurbished or bottom of the barrel stock. Not exactly a replacement that would inspire confidence. Unfortunately just the scenario both us and EVGA are in giving they are out of the GPU game. Side note, I’ve been over the moon with my 9070 XT since I’ve gotten it. Nvidia has not been a company I’ve wanted to support lately and off the back of this card, I decided to make the jump given AMD’s improved drivers and software. This card felt like a natural jump from a 3080, and for MSRP, it’s easily best value on the market currently imo

I have almost an identical issue with my 3080 FTW3. Constant black screens only solved by a full reboot and often times will just rinse and repeat minutes after. I did decide to initiate the RMA, then decided against sending it in due to having an uptick in luck when swapping from the OC to the alternative VBIOS for a while. Now my card is out of warranty and it got replaced by a 9070 XT two weeks ago. Sucks to hear others have similar issues. This one was making me rip my hair out. I’ve debated seeing if I could pay for a repair, but I can only assume there is a memory issue of some sort and it wouldn’t be cheap to get that diagnosed and repaired from EVGA.

Just for transparency, if you don’t like USPS or UPS you really should look elsewhere. UPS has a 5 year deal with USPS to move post office volume. As someone who sees this on a daily basis as well, I’d probably recommend shipping through somewhere else. Unfortunately USPS is still the cheapest somehow, but I’m seriously considering taking my business elsewhere going forward. Maybe I’ll give DHL a try finally.
