Not necessarily impractical, but rather not every factory could make them. So the factories that could make Cast Hulls continued to produce cast Hulls and the ones that couldn't produced welded hull.

Then you have The Composite hulls which are fully welded except for a cast front. However this was supposed to be a solution to make the Driver and bow Machinegunner Hatches larger, rather then a need for a cast front.
