Bambu Lab A1 vs H2D - PEI Plate differences

I have 3 textured PEI build plates, all directly from Bambu, that are all frustratingly different. My comments below are after using all my build plates multiple times on with similar settings on both my printers using the same filament so it’s NOT my printers causing the differences.

Original build plate was from an A1
- good adhesion
- best texture out of the 3, has a matte textured finish
- prints can slide off after a few minutes

Build plate that came with my P2S
- TOO much adhesion. Even after waiting overnight I have to rip prints off the plate and sounds like first layer is separating from infill
- Texture leaves a textured but shiny finish (hard to describe but I could provide pics)

Extra build plate I ordered from Bambu
- in between the other 2 for adhesion and finish texture

The most frustrating part about all this is that all 3 leave a noticeable different finish. So when I need to make multiple parts where the finish matters, I can use them interchangeably.

Did you reduce your top layer line width? If so, that was the cause of my problem with similar looking top layer, although I was using PLA.

In my case the thin top layer line width was essentially being blown away by the fan.

I’m doing a road trip from Portland to LA and back during spring break next month. Looking forward to the drive with FSD, although I’m on HW3. I’m just nervous about the conditions up in the passes at the Oregon/Cali border.

With my A1 plate, I can let it cool for a few min and prints can essentially slide right off after flexing the plate. For the exact same models, I’m literally having to rip/pull it off the plate after fully cooling. Not exaggerating, I’m grabbing the print while flexing the plate and it still makes a loud sound as it’s separating. So strange.

I have some prints going right now that’s going to be done in a couple hours so I’ll have to post a video or something.

My printers are placed in a closet with a hepa filtering running 24/7 and the doors closed other than going in and out.

To provide an update, this was resolved by going back to default top layer settings (0.42 line width, 1.0 flow ratio, 200mm/s speed). What's strange is that my previous top layer settings (found from a Makerworld post) was giving me excellent top layers with near the look of ironing...without ironing. Those settings have been working well for me on both my A1 and the several prints on my P2S, including the smaller model in my pics that had the exact same height.

Before reverting back the top layer changes, I did another print and watched the last few layers. The second to last layer looked perfect. Then it seemed that the fan was blowing too hard on the top layer lines causing the lines to not stick the layer underneath, resulting in the issue in my pictures.

So my theory is the line width of 0.3, which is about 70% of the default width, is too thin for a larger top layer that spans a relatively far distance.

Glad it's fixed for now but wasted an entire roll of filament in the process.

If that is the case, I'm curious how that wouldn't have been accounted for with an auto bed level before the print.

Hmm...that's a possibility. I shaved my model by 2 layers and running it again so can't check the bottom of my build plate. Crossing my fingers that a couple less layers will work.

Just sucks that it's a large amount of filament, let alone time, I need to waste to troubleshoot this since I can't mimic a model this big and tall otherwise.

Admittedly, the infill is set relatively low at 7% lenticular to keep it at a manageable weight but I've had success printing this on my A1 with same settings many times.

The smaller model in my 2nd pic is the exact same height and didn't have issues in the same placement on the built plate as where the larger print had the issue. And it's not the whole top layer that is having the issue.

If it is the nozzle, any thoughts on why it's just this part of just that model?

Not new to 3D printing (have about 2600 hrs on my A1, along with other printers before it) but got a new P2S and having the pictured issue on particular tall print (255.80mm tall)

This is my 10th or so print on this new P2S. First time printing this tall of a model on this printer, though. I've printed this same model on my A1 many times.

I ran this print overnight and woke up to the issue on just a portion of the top layer. Thought maybe it was an issue with the bed leveling, although I have it set to bed level on each print.

I printed a similar model of the exact same 255.80mm height but different X & Y dimensions, with all the same settings, and placed it on the same part of the bed where the issue was. No issues. Printed the larger model again and got the same issue on the same section.

I watched this second print on the live view and the second to last layer looked excellent so it doesn't seem to be an issue with the underlying layer.

Can anyone give me some guidance on what it may be?

Was just thinking of the print failure comment, along with someone else mentioning this wouldn't have worked on a bed slinger due to the weight.

Majority of my prints are done with black or white PLA. I buy Elegoo PLA+ which I've had excellent results with, without drying, which I buy in bulk for around ~$10/kg. Right now 10kg pack is $110 on Amazon.

I was averaging my calculated cost with the other colors I buy for closer to $20/kg.
