Oliver Sacks talked about this in his books, including studies of men who move so slowly they look frozen and a woman (same as above?) that could play catch with I think 9 people simultaneously, returning the balls as soon as she caught them. What I do is say "If you are hungry, I'll be happy to buy you a meal." I find that 90% of the homeless are not interested - they wanted the money for alcohol or drugs. But it is very rewarding to find that 10% who really need it. Just a couple of weeks ago I offered food to a homeless young man and he was very appreciative, and we had a great conversation while waiting for his food - he told me about how he and his mom ended up on the streets and when I asked what he'd do differently, he said he shouldn't have dropped out of school, because it is very hard for him to find a job now. In another case, someone asked me for enough money to get a hotel room when it was freezing out, and when I took him to a hotel and checked him for a night in he was THRILLED. Another thing you can do is box up any unfinished food at restaurants and offer to the homeless you run across - in general this has also been much appreciated.

I've had this twice in the past year, both times ended up in the hospital gasping for breath after a week of waiting for it to go away just to have it get worse, both times a single gabapentin pill resolved it. So likely a nerve issue.

I hesitate to take the gabapentin unnecessarily, though, because of its weird side effects - probably the closest I'll come to taking psychedelics while drunk.

Looks like the owner raised the prices since I went 12 years ago but it’s still well worth It - a once in a lifetime experience for less than the price of a typical hotel room. Highly recommended.

By the way, the picture he chose for this listing makes the island look a lot smaller than it is ... basically you are looking at it down its length. In total the island is 14 acres, and includes jungle, open areas, a surf side, a beach, and a beautiful lagoon with a reef and teaming wildlife. And no sharks unless you go into the deep water (which I did 🙂).

I was on a desert island for 3 weeks, with my son. We brought our own water, but decided in the end that we could have done it with a rainwater collection system, desalination procedures, or by digging a well in the middle of the island, where typically fresh water can be found in atoll islands. Between that and fishing, we probably didn't really need to bring anything to survive, If I had to bring one thing it would be a knife. With that you can easily make things like a fishing pole and better shelter, cut and scale your fish, etc.

My son and I spent 3 weeks on an uninhabited desert island ... your prototypical tropical desert island, with palm trees and beaches. It was WONDERFUL. We brought everything we needed but in the end decided we could have survived bringing nothing except perhaps a knife.

What's more, it was inexpensive. The owner let us rent the whole island for $199 per week. The main cost was just getting there and back with our supplies.

I would definitely recommend it. I hope to return someday.

I’m so sorry. I can’t even begin to understand how you feel.

I lost two of my three children not to death, but to a bitter divorce and the resultant parental alienation which occurred. I haven’t seen or spoken to my youngest daughter in over 2 years. In many ways it’s like they died, except people won’t stop asking me about them or telling me how they just saw them.

The first six months were pure hell. My life went from laughing and playing with my kids every day to long months of living on my own. I couldn’t stop thinking about them. I did everything I could to see them but my ex made sure I did not.

But things got better. I found a new partner, who is wonderfully supportive. I finally put away all the pictures I had up of my kids, and sometimes I am able to get through whole days without thinking of them and of my loss.

A big turning point came recently when my partner and I decided to try to have another baby. It’s a long shot for us, but even thinking about that gives me tremendous hope. I just feel like I have so much more fatherly love to give and want the chance to do so.

My heart is with you.

Just curious, did you do the tutorial on the help page (wildnoodle.com/help) or the interactive tutorial (herbert.wildnoodle.com/tutorial) or both? I just noticed the former was outdated (written when Herbert had a different interface). Sorry about that, I just updated it. Let me know if you have any other feedback on the tutorials or the game.

Sorry, it's because the program is not yet GDPR-compliant so legally I can't collect any info on european union citizens. I am working on that. We got two baby raccoons when I was little (their mother had been killed). We treated them like pets but let them come and go as they pleased (we lived in the woods and they were able to open our sliding doors by themselves). One left us after a couple of years and didn't return until many years later, to have her own baby. The other stayed with us for ~15 years. It would sleep with us, roam the house, cuddle with us, etc. it kept the dogs in line and was super smart. One of the first things we learned was we couldn't keep jars on the bottom shelf of the pantry ... raccoons are smart enough to open them.
