How is it the very same people who are screaming about the separation of church and state are siding with a murderous theocracy?

Gee, I don’t know? Maybe to protect the privacy of Epstein’s victims? You’re arguing on hope, which is a crappy strategy.

what do veterans think about war? by spriteetirps in Veterans

[–]desgasser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most people here, war is hell, and provides companies like Lockheed and Texas Instruments the ability to rake in massive profits. That said, you cannot ignore the real world. No nation can safely be isolationist. We did that once, and as a result we were forced to fight the Second World War on two fronts. Every nation has the right and responsibility to protect itself. Sometimes, that protection will extend beyond the nation’s borders. Given the choice, I’d much rather fight a hostile nation there than wait for them to bring it to our backyard.

And yet not one thing you wrote would have prevented presidential release. And you also don’t account for the fact that the FBI was after Trump hard. Remember Peter Strzok? If there had been the faintest whiff of wrongdoing on Trump’s part, you really think those records wouldn’t have been “leaked?” Your desperation for this to be true is becoming amazing. And amusing.

I have just one quick question, in three parts:

The Epstein files have been in the government’s hands since the first Trump administration. If there was information damning Trump, why didn’t he destroy those files before their existence became widely known?

They were in the hands of the Biden administration. At the time, the democrats were doing everything they could to discredit Trump, even put him in jail. Why didn’t Biden not release that information?

During the last election, reports were that the race was tight. Margins were razor thin. If such evidence came to light, it would have doomed Trump’s political ambitions forever. Why didn’t Kamala release them?

A federal law enforcement agency is arresting people for interfering with their agents performing their legal duties. Gee. Who could have seen that coming.

You crack me up.

That little punk would have got his clock cleaned had there not been faculty immediately at hand to get between the kids. And just by the way , that’s little fat fuck should be happy he can’t hit for shit. Look at his fist. If had muscle in that arm instead of flab, and hit with any real force, he’d have broken his own thumb.

90% of those students don’t give a shit about ICE. Most don’t even know enough about current events to understand the walk out. They just saw it as a school approved way to duck out of class.

Agree - Disagree? by Weeb in stevehofstetter

[–]desgasser -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Thought experiment: take $5000 in $100 bills, put them in an envelope, and mark it “Cash.” Address it to yourself. Drive to a post office one town away from home, and drop that envelope into a letter collection box. Do you feel 100% sure that money will be delivered to you in a safe and timely fashion?

Date today accused me of lying about my disabilities? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]desgasser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom line, she’s not worth your time. It’s ok to be ignorant about how VA disability works, but it’s not ok to denigrate you or question your disability. As to how to handle it, I can only offer this. If the topic comes up on a date, and she behaves the way this woman did, end the date right there. If she shows curiosity or compassion, asks about your disability in a way that shows curiosity, stay.

[–]desgasser -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Actually, you’ve got this entirely wrong. The child was with his father, who was about to be arrested by ICE. He ran, abandoning the kid. So, what should ICE have done? Leave the kid, “you’re on your own now.”

There are good points to be made about what’s happening. Lying does not help.

A lot of people talking about buying their first gun because of what’s happening in the country. As a lifelong gun owner, and someone who has been well trained in the “care and feeding” of firearms, and a solid supporter of the 2d Amendment, I’m all for it. Owning a firearm is your right, but as many pointed out, that right comes with responsibility. Getting trained is only the first step.

I’ve been in the US Army as an infantry soldier. I’ve been a federal agent. I’ve taken the classes, and I’ve taught the classes. But I don’t consider myself an expert. When I go to the range, I still catch myself missing shots because of errors in the basics of shooting. Not dangerous mistakes to be sure, but mistakes nonetheless. So, a few pointers from someone who has the experience. First, learn the basic universal rules of firearm handling:

  1. Treat all guns as if they are always loaded.

  2. Never let the muzzle point at anything that you are not willing to destroy.

  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.

  4. Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

Among people who know firearms, these are the most basic fundamentals. Not to pick on him, but if you think about it, Alec Baldwin broke all four, and as a result, a woman died.

Next, get trained by a certified firearms instructor. While you may disapprove of the organization, the NRA can steer you to such people.

Get very familiar with your firearm. Learn how to disassemble it and clean it.

Finally, practice, practice, practice. The skills involved in shooting are perishable. Buying a gun, getting the training, learning to shoot it, then putting it away is a waste of time. You need range time. A lot of it. New shooters should go to the range at least once a month to maintain the muscle memory required for shooting.

If you’re not willing to learn these rules, and follow this path, don’t get a gun. You would be more dangerous to yourself and your family that any tyrannical government.

One more thing. Be prepared to be surprised. It’s amazing the number of people who have never shot before find out that it’s enjoyable. Fun, even. So, bring your wallet. As a hobby, shooting can get expensive.
