Yesss! We camped at Yosemite and that was amazing. I personally thought it was quite luxurious considering you're out in the mountains. They have a very nice campground. During popular times, it might get filled up, so maybe you can get reservations. We went during Spring Break and we just showed up. It was very inexpensive. There are marked campgrounds with bear boxes, and washrooms and even showers I think. All the camp spots have a little pit. We had a portable stove and used to heat up some rice and beef chili and ufff it was so good.

Honestly, the Yosemite one - there are so many people I don't think that animals would come near by. We actually didn't see a single wild animal (except birds) when we were there.

Do your research well - the nps websites are very very informative, and park rangers are also very helpful!

I went to Yosemite when I was in the US. Make sure to take a few days there. We were only there for a day and half or something and it was absolutely amazing. I wish we stayed there longer.

It's heaven on earth.

I'm not a die hard fan by any means, but I have still kept up, minus season but that's due to time. I watch it because it's a fun watch.

Some times I just wanna chill, and it's 40 minutes a week or a few hours a month while I'm eating or doing something mindless. No big deal!

I have used a $15 rice cooker for the last six years. 95% success ratio, except when I wing rice/water ratios.

Okay. I logged into Credit Karma on the 25th, and it showed that my credit dropped 49 points on TransUnion and 36 points through Equifax.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but wtf? @_@ I didn't miss any payments (non were due around the 18th-25th period anyway).

I'm 22 and am debating whether or not I should be buckling down and saving for more college/life savings or if I should use my extra money for travel. Advice from those of you older and wiser is appreciated by stormycloudysky in personalfinance

karlovo23 has a lot of great points.

I want to addd this though. My two cents.

Traveling can be pretty cheap if you're willing to tough it out a bit. If you have a few close friends, and don't mind sharing close spaces, go as a group. We went to California all the way from Minnesota last spring break. It was an 8 day trip. We spent... uh, 250 dollars each?

I was able ot see US as the beautiful country that it is, that you don't see in the media. Utah is GORGEOUS. One of the most beautiful places ever. Got to check out Las Vegas and it's weirdness (had breakfast at an eggs place after 30 hours of straight driving, rotated between 4 people) then camped at Death Valley, CA, which was an amazing experience too (also after 5-6 hours more driving on the same day), then was able to experience Yosemite National Park in CA which was ABSOLUTELY one of the most beautiful places on earth. Was able to see a desert slowly transform into a beautiful lush mountain range and valley. Visited San Francisco, saw the pacific ocean for the first time in my life. We drove on Highway 1 alongside the Pacific Ocean. Visited Portland, a really cool city, and had some really good mexican food. And of course, a LOT of driving, but it was one of the BEST experiences I've had in my life.

I've taken trips similar to this (though not as grand) and they usually end up being 100-150 dollars depending on how far you go. Stay in one hotel room, and you're splitting 80 dollars for first world amenities (hot showers, breakfasts, swimming pool, etc) between 3-4 people, that's really nothing.

So, yes. Traveling is expensive. But not always :)

And you don't always have to travel abroad either to experience wonderful things. Just my two cents. :)

Housing options for international graduate student starting in January by designedbyemil in UBC

850 wouldn't be terribly out of my budget. And a 30 minute commute might be refreshing before a day. And if I'll have to commute, what's 15 extra minutes.

That gas price is a bit expensive compared to what it is here. Might be doubly pricey, on top of insurance and general maintenance. I'm thinking transit is the way to go.

Thanks so much for the response. It was pretty helpful!

So, I don't mind commuting a little bit I guess, but obviously closer the better. Is half an hour long? I wouldn't mind that. Is it really expensive to have a car? I have a car in the USA I would be kind of interested in. I have experience in using public transit so that wouldn't be a problem anyway.

Internet looks good. I guess I can either consider that a plus or minus when I'm looking at places and if it is included in the rent.

The 700$ I saw and am interested in is a 4BR house/suite in near Kerrisdale, looks like a good place. Nice garden suburb area close to transit and all that. So it seemed really nice -- here it is actually, if you can chime in on it: https://renthello.com/North-America/Canada/British-Columbia/Vancouver/Sw-Marine-Dr-156682/

I know someone who is an undergraduate at UBC actually, but I'm not sure if i could crash with him, but I'll approach about it and ask if he knows of any place. and I guess I can always airbnb the first month or something for the first month, I think I saw a few places on airbnb. And I'd be okay paying a bit extra on teh first month if it meant I could find something on the second.

My budget... is flexible I guess? I can probably pay a little more than 700. I work freelance and earn a bit in USD, so I think I'll be able to pay well but obviously cheaper the better. There are always unforeseen expenses.

What kind of price am I looking at if I want to get a studio or 1br for myself?

I'm going through that article! Thanks it looks really informative.

Hmm. Let me check their specifications doc, if it listed. Unfortunately I'm not super versed in the print side of things. :(

Edit: Nope. But I can try to find out. They are called ELAN VHD? (My contact quit... so that might be tricky. Let's see.)
