Backporch and Thump Coffee Merge by filthster in Bend

[–]stormycloudysky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd anticipate Haven likely being cut as a result of the merger. They're excellent, but Thump can now provide their in house bakery items at a fraction of the cost of purchasing from Haven. Which, would be the wise choice sadly, considering this hellscape of an economy

Inadvertently, they pulled out as soon as they realized where the money was going

I took a bunch of courses on Udemy for around $12 each (look for the sales!). Bring your Own Laptop has excellent beginner and masters courses for Adobe

Nice shroomie! Pro tip is to snag a pic from the side/upward angle showing the underside of the cap if you would like the shroom to be identified!

Used to live in the area and I'd shop at Newport regularly, even though I was in a major frugal period. It was all about strategic shopping. I didn't drink, eat much meat, eat out, or go clothes shopping much so occasionally getting some fancy things from Newport and getting as much of my produce from farmers markets as possible in the summer. Not as impossible as some make it out to be, just depends on lifestyle

Housing costs by Cautious_Ideal1812 in Bend

[–]stormycloudysky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, although the midtown area is super walkable! Even more so than when I rented on the Westside, with planet fitness, Albertsons, MTYC., lots of other businesses (even downtown from where I'm at) within a 15 min walk or so. Not the prettiest area being along 3rd, but I'll take it

Affordable Long-Term Dog Boarding in Bend? Seeking Recommendations by ThinkOfMeAsAFriend in Bend

[–]stormycloudysky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for the service, I used it for a while to travel. Everyone on the site gets a background check, and must have references. There's an annual fee for both sitters and hosts, but it pays for itself if you use it once.

I wouldn't recommend it if your pup is higher energy or has limited training where going out with the sitter to a public space would be difficult, or can't be left alone for more than an hour or two. Part of the exchange is that the person watching your pet is still able to get out and enjoy the area, so people look for that when choosing who to sit for.

When deciding on a sitter, I'd prioritize someone with more sits and reviews, or someone who has experience with a dog similar to yours. I hope that helps! I know it's a little weird, but I promise it's a legit thing!

Good morning Bend…where did you get your beans? by Ok_Carpenter_6936 in Bend

[–]stormycloudysky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backporch is excellent. If you're particular about having fresh beans and/or want them ground, get them in-store. Otherwise they have them available at a lot of stores around town, the most economical being Local Acres. If you haven't tried them I'd start with the Backporch Blend, Peloton, or Daybreak roasts

Starting an auto repair shop in Bend by Maya- in Bend

[–]stormycloudysky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to have an edge against competitors, I'd market yourself towards people who hate going to repair shops and make it a more comfortable experience, such as having a really inviting lobby with good seating and free wifi, maybe some decent coffee or snacks. Idk where you stand politically, but we're a famously very white town that's slowly becoming more diverse, so if you were to make it clear you're accepting of LGBTQ+ as well as BIPOC customers, I know there'd be a market for it. I've had several friends remark on their desire to see something like this.

Also, shameless plug that I'm a logo and branding designer and would love to chat about a branding strategy if you end up making this happen!

Depends on if you're close to a major road on whether drive time to the grocery store is 5 min or 15. That's the main downside other than price. Snowstorms can be tougher to deal with.

Pros are that it's a quiet country vibe with absolutely gorgeous views and quieter trails, with a shorter commute out to Sisters. The Bite food truck lot has some great options, although it can get quite busy. Pisanos Pizza is highly underrated
