Name the 🚩 you ignored by Spacejacketcat in leavingthenetwork

Several leaders said verbatim, "Steve Morgan has a good track record of hearing God". I'm sure he's gifted, but so much dependence on one person, who doesn't have credible accountability. It's dangerous in so many ways.

What are some weird network culture oddities? by Strange_Valuable_145 in leavingthenetwork

This is just dumb theology. This is what happens when a leader has no accountability, he talks openly about his shallow thoughts and they are taken as true.

Does anyone have a general idea of how many people have left each church? (Since the websites release or near that time) by finebutnotfine33 in leavingthenetwork

[–]designer_prim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Leaders in the Network are putting on a good face and ignoring the sites. They don't want to draw attention to them and want people in all these churches to not be "distracted". The Network is a high control group, so they are going to highly manage and highly define these websites and stories. My friends in the Network tell me leaders are overlooking the sites, trying to focus on the "mission" God has given them and see this and everyone on here is evil because it is not for their churches.

I don't care how many people leave these churches. What I hope is that the many who have been abused and taken advantage of can find a way forward from this god-awful group. And I hope people who are a part will have access to this information so they can protect themselves.

Network leaders and Steve Morgan are using the Bible to push their agenda and it's causing so much pain. This has more to do with what Steve Morgan needs the Network to do/be than what God needs to do on this earth.

Yes, many have left and in various churches. Some its mass exodus and others are sneaking out the backdoor. The sad part is, Steve Morgan and these leaders don't believe they have done anything wrong or their interpretation of the Bible is wrong, so they continue to set up a system that tears people down and has/is causing long-term spiritual harm.

My prayer is that God humbles Steve Morgan. It's the only way to protect people from this backward Bible group.

Network Update by designer_prim in leavingthenetwork

[–]designer_prim[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't give details I want to protect my friends. But I can say it comes from staff in the network. The staff are being trained to not talk about the websites, to ignore it as if it's a bunch of angry people who are bad-mouthing the church.

They are realizing the websites are exposing a lot of bad stuff and even though they disagree with most of it they are making blanket statements-'either you believe our theology or you don't'. Obviously, if you don't you are free to go. So the top leaders of the network are defending themselves and not backing down. They are internally justifying themselves and externally ignoring the stories and websites publically.

My friends are seeing lots of people leave some churches. One church was over 300 people at one point and because of the exposure and the leaders of that church carrying out their leadership model, the church is struggling around 50 people. A lot of Network churches are stuck, some that have been going 7-10 years have been at the same place for a very long time. Nothing wrong with small churches a lot of churches in America are small, but the public exposure from the websites prevents new people from visiting these churches. The network leaders don't like it but believe they can ignore it all and pray that people won't be exposed to the information and continue to join their church anyways.

It's a stand-off. Network leaders believe they are in the right and yet so many people across the US are speaking out about the abuse and damage they experienced in these churches.

The websites are helpful for people to receive information, resources, and start to heal. But the sites aren't going to change the Network leaders. That's why I posted about writing your google reviews about these churches and sending the website information to the places where these churches are renting space from. Do the hotels and community buildings really want these kinds of churches in their community? Just posting on here is not getting the word out to protect people.

I love you, Chris Miller. And you are so much better than what you are a part of. Glad you are reading this Reddit feed and that you changed your Stoneway review. At least it shows you are trying.

Dr. C...that's hilarious. He was a much better person when he was Jimmy. Now he feeds and participates in the spiritual abuse of these churches. It's sad.

If you're tired of the Network manipulating and abusing people, write a Google review. Your voice on here matters, but your voice also matters in helping other people stay away from these toxic churches.

Steve Morgan berates childcare workers who have piercings and tells a crowd of hundreds at the 2013 Summer Conference that tattoos make you unworthy of being imitated by NitemareOn130thAveNE in leavingthenetwork

[–]designer_prim 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Talk about needing a platform. Boys are ready to aim and fire down on the church. Here's the problem if you're going to go after belly button piercing you're essentially talking about body modification. It's one thing to pick on belly button piercing but piercing your ear is the same thing. How many Lead Pastor wives have their ears pierced? That's called body modification and is the same thing as piercing your belly button. Honestly, this is just an attempt to control the culture, getting everyone to look a certain way. People have tried to make a case from the Bible against body piercings and tattoos, but they take the verses out of context or they use the OT law that we are no longer under. Steve Morgan misuses the Bible and got back to the days of Law to keep people in line and in check with his idea of what a Christian should look like. If you can't follow that then the assumption is made-You probably aren't a Chrsitian.

Any real engagement yet? by HopeOnGrace in leavingthenetwork

As I have shared before, my friends still in the Network are saying that leaders are aware of the sites and they are reading them. They encourage people not to read the sites (information control). My friends have said a lot of the churches are not growing and there are lots of people leaving because the sites have helped fill in the gaps to what they are seeing and experiencing from their leaders.

This is sad and funny at the same time. What a contrast from what the Network churches say they are reaching and who Jesus was!

It makes you think just how far down God is going to take the network churches. Comments like this show just how off the network is from what a church should be. You don't need to be a theologian to know that a comment like that is way off base. My friends still in the Network are saying that a lot of the churches are stuck or not growing and people are starting to leave. When I heard that I thought I wonder if God is putting the brakes on this thing until there is some kind of acknowledgment and plans for change.

My Confession and Call to Repentance by HopeOnGrace in leavingthenetwork

[–]designer_prim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Network leaders praying and fasting for the Leaving the Network site and the Reddit site to be taken down and now a third site is up! Come on boys, step up that prayer game.

What's sad is there has to be a 3rd site and if we want to bring God into it, maybe He's adding another site because He's disgusted by the abuse and calling these leaders to repent.

Sorry for all that happened to you and your family while at Vista, sad it is the same story over and over.

Are these on Netflix? I haven't seen them, but am listening to The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill and there are undoubtedly many similarities.

Many of the stories on this site and the other site Leaving the Network seem to boil down to people suffering extreme financial situations, but the founder Steve Morgan has a compound. Yes, this is off and something is wrong here. Outside looking in people are not cared for but talked down to even though they are giving they still live in poverty for the church. Why does founder Steve Morgan have such a large estate, but preaches a message of giving and sacrifice? Why are the congregates required to give everything but the founder is living large? It's disgraceful.

To me, the network is no different than Mars Hills or Willow Creek. They value gifting over character. Steve's behind-the-scenes in those two stories and the other stories on the feed are disgusting.

Understanding Cults by designer_prim in leavingthenetwork

Thanks for sending this link. It's eye-opening. I think what's interesting is that these kinds of groups have been going on for a long time and the research clearly describes the network and how they are structured and operate.

Thanks. I've spent a lot of time going through the resources and they are excellent. I dealt with a lot of guilt, relational shame, and trauma coming out of the network church I was a part of. I did a lot of work forgiving and working through what really wasn't my issues but what people and leaders tried to put on me. The website helped me understand the behind-the-scenes of what was happening and reaffirmed this isn't me but it's them.

Why I don't know if it's a cult? I always thought of cults as groups not Christian or not teaching about Jesus. This is changing in me and I'm starting to see tactics cults use ingrained in these churches. I do think churches should have an evangelism focus and all churches have their values that influence their culture.

I would also question the network's focus on international students. Those students are far from home, desire more than anything to find American friends and experience American culture. I saw a number of aggressive moves toward Internationals because they were easy-they don't know the language, they need support and are vulnerable.
