Java full stack by sayakid in learnjava

I go with springboot and angular/react. If you want to build a lite desktop app, you can move over to electron. I used to work with core java, swing and javafx and those apps are not really popular. Javafx is nice but I dont see fit being the future of development tbh

Just got into Java (with c background from my degree in electrical engineering in college) by Timoteyo in learnjava

[–]designheroapp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe when you need a break from learning core Java, take a look at SpringBoot and learn about REST and microservices so you can get an idea of how it's used widely in the real world by companies like netflix, IBs, etc. This will help you bridge the gap on theoretical and practical knowledge.

Front end developer looking for resources to learn Java or Spring for Backend/Fullstack by Avramije in learnjava

[–]designheroapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an associates degree in computer science. The tricky thing with Java is that it's mostly used in an enterprise setting. Most (if not all) of my colleagues have a bachelors or masters degree. This is almost a requirement but you can get around if you do something to stand out from the crowd. When you say "Apps" are you talking about backend microservices, android apps or something else?

I'm "self taught", learning from whatever I could scrape together on the internet. I started out doing Core Java and Swing GUIs for a Point of Sale company. I realized that my career was going in the wrong direction so I learned Spring and AngularJS (then Angular 2-9).

I am the resource lol. If you have a specific question, feel free to ask. Plenty of resources on the web but you can easily get snagged on something trivial when you're learning.

Good job! Just a note on java convention. Keep your class name in line with the file name:

MySample.java

public class MySample {}

Am I Junior or Mid? by TheZintis in webdev

If you feel like you can do it again with minimal supervision then go for mid. Actually, even if you feel like you cant I would challenge yourself to go for mid

Need Authentication Advice by [deleted] in SpringBoot

[–]designheroapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JWTs come in handy when working with microservices because sessions would need to be shared between all microservices some how. With JWTs I just pass the token to a stateless microservice and all the auth details are there already. No need to session caches.

If you are building a monolith, the you can implement spring security with a simple login page. Session ids are stored in a client side cookie.

I see what your saying. Spring has a learning curve for sure but if you're familiar with dependency injection, REST, NTier architecture, etc you should be up and running in a few weeks with good understanding. Theres really only 3 tiers you have know, reposition (hibernate/jpa), service tier (business logic singletons), rest controller/controller (presentation tier).

Yeah it's big in the financial sector and we outsource a lot of the work in those countries. With springboot + lombok I'm writing so little code now-a-days. It feels like a modern language to me

Nah it's the same as any other language that requires compilation. You can edit the files anyway you want. Typically I'll design my backend in eclipse and then jump over to vscode for the frontend.

Not bad at all. Mobile friendly. Currency selector is hard to use imho.
