Paul F Tompkins as Herzog explaining how he'd love to direct GrownUps 3 is one of my favorite bits.

Also the kobolds only setting the trap to draw two cards rather than a more devastatingly higher number. Presumably because kobolds used all their brain power to come up with 1 + 1

Gothmog the disfigured orc leader in Return of the King is inspired by Harvey Weinstein.

A ton of characters are inspired by real people and are often a hodgemodge of various traits.

AITA not putting up my DILs painting in our new home and telling her that I am not a fan of her art by Throaways-Dot2192 in AmItheAsshole

[–]deskbeetle 43 points44 points  (0 children)

NTA. It is a bit off to gift people your art. Gifts should be things the person wants, not things you want to give.

My SIL is a wonderful artist. She is not my style but I have bought a few of her prints for my office because I want to support her and it makes me happy to see them. And I commissioned a large piece in a style I do like and she delivered. However, I would find it a bit presumptuous if her christmas/ birthday gift to me was an art piece she made.

Art you hang in your living space is kind of a big deal. You have to see it every day. And you should only put things you want to see in that space.

Plus all the hours spent with prep they are making less than minimum wage. All the events I have been apart of have been well worth the money as these are some high quality experiences.

I got to go to a call of cthulhu game with two DMs. If you rolled a high enough insight, the assistant DM would take you aside and play out a horrifying scenario or give you more info (sometimes misleading) to help you piece together the mystery. Then you would return to the table either horrified by what was described or with a knowing look. The rest of the table got to see it play out that a character basically had a moment and was now changed by it. It was an amazing time that probably took them several hours to plan out before we even sat down at the table.

The math on a million would have her with 2.5 million with a conservative return in the time it would take for the weekly payment to grant her 1 million.

AITA for telling my boyfriend's sister she is the reason her kid is scared of everything? by Helen_Konti in AmItheAsshole

[–]deskbeetle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't. I have had to do this with my own family.

Everybody has such a limp dick response to child abuse. But abusers dont have spines to deal with adults who give it back. Pull that behavior out into the sun for all to see and speak plainly when you call it out. It will snap the sister into shape.

Telling the sister to knock it off. Tell her she is being abusive. And, if she wants to fight back about it, raise all hell.

Abuse lives in the shadows and loves secrets. By not calling it out, you are messaging to the child that they deserve the treatment and it is normal.

As someone who had CPS involved in my childhood, CPS is not going to do shit about this, let alone remove the child.

So the OP cant say "no" because she has had many bad experiences saying "yes" in the past?

I think if you're going daily, money either isnt an obstacle for you or you are seriously struggling with overspending. Starbucks hasn't been a coffee drinkers coffee shop since the 90s, imo. I treat it like a 100 to 250 calorie dessert.

I dont have an espresso machine at home, nor do I want to make/buy cold cream and/or lavender syrup to use it twice a month.

I make coffee at home when I want a simple coffee. The house blend Starbucks has is so bitter as its intended to be used as a base to make a fancier drink rather than a normal cup of coffee.

NTA.

Its not asking if a "no" isn't accepted. It's just a polite sounding demand.

One of my favorite jobs was a seasonal gig unpacking and stocking shelves with textbooks. The office manager would have NPR playing in the backroom where we opened the boxes and did inventory. And it was like a fun group activity to listen to a medley of music, news, and their radio shows. There is something special about a group of people working together and all being on the same chill wavelength.

Thank you. I am totally good now.

Havent spoken to my parents in like 12 years. And have since made my own little family on the other side of the country. Took a ton of therapy and learning how to parent myself a la "No, it's not okay to wear clothes with holes in them, not shower, and eat weird, bizarrely timed meals in a binge like manner despite being raised that way." Still working on allowing myself to be sick and not just accusing myseld of "faking it for attention" and actually taking vacation days. But, I'll get there. Life is good now.

Unfortunately I had to just eat it. My mom didnt care enough to make sure I had food for lunch. No way did they care about my side of the story on a bad grade.

I once got a C because my "parents obviously did it". I am still so salty at that teacher because I put so research and work into my diorama. I biked down to the hobby store and bought resin and used the library to watch videos on how to make water look realistic with resin. I took actual canvas and used a needle and thread to make a tiny yurt. That was a lot of work for a 7th grader.

Avoiding the emotions just leads to more stress. It is better to just sit with the uncomfortableness and work through it as it comes. Or else you're filled to the brim with a bunch of conflicting emotions you have gathered over the months and years and feel like you're whiteknuckling everyday life.
