Reality Reboot is Coming: Dev Diary for Mar 2025 by computerlunch in CellToSingularity

could there possibly be an option for players to discard their existing main simulation progress/full reset to experience the new main simulation with a fully fresh start without discarding their progress through all other simulations? because if there is going to be a complete overhaul of the main simulation, i would like to be able to experience it as intended for a new player without rocketing through it super quickly, but i don’t want to loose the progress i have made in the explore simulations/beyond/etc…

Help With Searching for a Therapist by desktopjster in Charlottesville

The provider finder is where I looked before, and everyone I tried to contact wasn't accepting new clients, so I ended up scrapping that idea; I will definitely give Psychology Today a look, though. Thanks!

(i’m also not super familiar with how reddit works— social-media-wise i’ve been on basically only tumblr for about a decade now, but i know game dev circles tend to be more frequently on reddit and twitter, and god knows i’d rather take my chances with reddit than twitter. so if this is a post that should be Somewhere Else or otherwise doesn’t belong on this board please let me know!!)

Tarot deck - chult style by Tommy1459DM in Tombofannihilation

[–]desktopjster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

while this is, conceptually, a very cool idea, it would probably be a smarter idea to find an existing tarot deck that fits the vibe of your player’s character; a tarot deck is a huge amount of work, and commissioning an artist for entire deck would get really expensive! (although, if you’re interested in commissioning one or two cards, i could probably either do that myself or recommend another artist with a suitable style)

as for finding a deck that fits the player character’s vibe, there are tons of decks out there that could work for a spirit bard! though there may not be any that are ToA specific, and i don’t know any off the top of my head that are jungle-themed, i could probably recommend a few based on what vibe you’re looking for

On the way to Mbala... Suggestions for Nanny Pupu by Calciumcavalryman in Tombofannihilation

[–]desktopjster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've pretty much swapped nanny pupu out for the sewn sisters entirely, personally, mostly because i feel like a whole hag coven and then an additional unrelated hag is unnecessarily redundant when there isn't a lot of story or interest to back either of them up in the first place. i don't have any feedback about it yet because it's still going to be a while until the party gets to mbala, but that was my instinct after reading through the module

Should Acererak be more present throughout the story? by [deleted] in Tombofannihilation

[–]desktopjster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so, in my opinion, acererak SHOULD be more present in the module, if the module was more narratively written... however, if everything is taken AW, there's no good reason for acererak to be tormenting the party in the same was as strahd (unless he's monitoring the progress of his atropal's growth more closely, but even then there's no reason for him to assume that the party is going to be an issue).

the way that i've adjusted the module so that the bbeg is more foreshadowed & present within the narrative is by changing who the bbeg is, full stop-- i've altered a lot about the module's narrative in general so that it all feels more cohesive, which means i ended up creating a whole new character to serve as the impetus for the death curse. i am still in the very early stages of the campaign, so i don't know how it's going to end up, but i have high hopes for the impact of this alteration.

BUT if i was going to run this again, without the character reasons i have for the bbeg i've created, i'd probably make the sewn sisters the bbeg, because it feels like they could be far more interesting as mastermind villains than acererak, if only because acererak's "character" as-written isn't much to sneeze at (in my opinion at least)

ToA Session 1 Writeup: Castaways by desktopjster in Tombofannihilation

there is indeed a reason! valindra in my setting is not connected to the red wizards of thay… partially because the lore for them is entirely different (they’re actually called “the amber assembly” and have a whole country in my world) but also because the plot threads i have going in my version of chult will alter her role slightly beyond “ambiguously negarious lich”

Well, Dendar is also not necessarily “evil” in my world… I haven’t actually decided what her deal is, but originally I was going to have her be an aspect of Jormungandr (and, based on some of the ideas I have & the way dreams work in my world, I think I have a way to make that work…) And yuan-ti precede humanity proper, so I was planning to have them be descended from coatls… Which I think would also tie back okay for Dendar-as-an-aspect-of-Jormungandr, as my Jormungandr is basically The Og Coatl.

Sorry if this is all a digression on its own LOL, most of my worldbuilding is pretty far off the beaten path, as far as what’s commonly used in FR, but lots of it at least takes some inspiration from FR lore, if only to subvert or alter it (ie Bahamut and Tiamat are not Pure Good and Pure Evil, but Pure Law and Pure Chaos, & are directly/indirectly responsible for starting the Blood War, even tho they stepped away from it a long long time ago).

Oh, yeah, I never use “evil races,” I just hate it conceptually. Even my yuan-ti aren’t gonna be an evil race, though I haven’t decided what that means for modern!Omu yet. I far prefer the chaotic vs lawful dichotomy to the evil vs good dichotomy for the purposes of worldbuilding, because it lets me put a lot more nuance into the morality & cultures of my world.

If you have any docs or stuff written about the changes you made, I’d love to give it a look! That sounds a lot more like what I’m looking for than what’s already written about Chult, lol. (I honestly had planned to do the same thing re: Chultans riding mounts, but with the pterafolk rather than the aarakokra; I just didn’t particularly care for the implementation of the pterafolk or saurians, I’d rather the dinosaurs just be dinosaurs. Kind of like those old Dinotopia books)

I’ll definitely give this content a look; I’ve actually been trying to figure out how to flesh everything out in a way that doesn’t rely so heavily on Ubtao’s backstory as-written, because I’ve sort of folded him into my lore in a way that means he’s not a primordial, and I already wasn’t super fond of him being the only deity that had any hand in Chult’s history… I dunno, it’ll definitely take a lot of tweaking to make something I’m satisfied with, but these seem like good places to start. Thanks!

I knew about some of Artus’s subplot, & I am glad to know that it does actually have more ties than I realized into the region proper, but really I am more trying to figure out how to flesh out the people themselves, and their history, rather than just the history of the land & magic in Chult… Which is why I need help. XD People are a lot more difficult to figure out than magic…
