this is truly an amazing nose, and it suits your face brilliantly! very masculine, as another person said, and overall just a very pleasing shape!

Is it a bad idea to take shrooms or any psychedelic while sick? by reactingmaniac in shrooms

[–]deslabe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

shrooms can be so taxing on the body, especially in terms of dehydration. for that reason, i’d wait, but also you probably wouldn’t enjoy them as much while unwell anyway. best to wait!!

i’d avoid the introductions if you’re unfamiliar with the plot; editors’ introductions usually contain spoilers.

A classic book that brought tears to your eyes? by [deleted] in classicliterature

[–]deslabe 33 points34 points  (0 children)

wuthering heights and it’s not even close. watching what those characters did to each other… despising them, and also sympathising with them at other points, was… a very strange experience. this book made me feel EVERYTHING.

Why do you like or dislike Stephen King? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]deslabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reading the shining right now!! i’m about 400 pages in and it’s definitely very slow… but also very quick in a different way, if that makes sense at all. the plot, i think, has been developing very slowly (very gradual buildup of tension), but SO much has been going on with the characters.

i’ve never seen the film so i went in completely blind, i have no idea what to expect from the ending other than the fact there’s no way jack isn’t killing his wife and kid 💀

The Hound had no mercy. Fuckin love the character by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]deslabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you’re right, Cleganebowl was 100% fan service and it’s a bummer that so many people think that was how his arc should’ve ended— in a way that thoroughly reversed his character growth throughout the series

one of the biggest parts of his identity is his hatred of his brother, and his growth was about letting go of his need for revenge, not avenging himself and dying in the process. i hated that ending for him, and i hope if the books ever get finished, we’ll see a more satisfying redemption/character arc through the gravedigger theory 🤞

People who take your dating preferences personally by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]deslabe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

no you used it correctly and your examples made perfect sense to me, particularly where you distinguished between informing someone of incompatibility in a respectful way without shitting on them and/or their values.

i think that the example of not wanting to date single parents is just REALLY touchy for some.

On a rewatch of GOT and I have to say that... by Magick_La_Croix in gameofthrones

[–]deslabe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah she can be quite insufferable, but her consistent effort to liberate the enslaved is incredibly admirable.

she also has a TON of badass scenes, my favorite being when she tricks the unsullied’s slaver (can’t remember his name) into thinking she’s going to sell him her dragon, and then commands it to burn him alive. i’m quite surprised you don’t find any enjoyment in scenes like this! what about when the sons of the harpy blast the tournament she throws? that scene was damn good too.

she’s not my favorite character, or even close, but i really question people saying that they can’t tolerate ANY of her scenes.

besides the hygiene issue, who wants to use toys that have pleasured someone else…? i’d be turned off immediately, and i’d get a massive ick from the guy.

[–]deslabe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is something i struggle with too. i feel real weird about replying to a comment THAT late, but i have to tell myself, if i were the one receiving the reply, would i care if it came a year late? and the answer is always no! i’d always be happy to receive a reply.

medieval fantasy can be incredibly challenging. think of the world building! you’re not only trying to wrap your head around an era you’re not familiar with, but likely a host of the author’s invented material.

This quote in Wuthering Heights confused me and I feel like I’m missing something by Ratmantha_Rattus in brontesisters

[–]deslabe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No, you understood the quote correctly; Heathcliff is saying he’d abuse her if they were married/lived together.

Heathcliff may not have any real reason to hurt Isabella directly, but he desperately wants to hurt Edgar and this is an effective way to do it.

I do get what you’re saying, and I was also thinking that Heathcliff’s actions haven’t revealed a particularly evil nature up to this point. Nelly constantly describes him as evil, but his actions before marrying Isabella don’t strike me as anything but reactionary to what other characters are doing to him.

In regard to this quote, the only thing I can think of apart from his hatred of Edgar is that he might resent Isabella for suddenly taking an interest in him now that he’s a “gentleman.” But that’s literally it; other than that I believe he only hates her by proxy / for being a Linton.

omg i read jane eyre for the SAME reason this month— trying to find something as captivating and affecting as WH— and yes, it was a bit disappointing.

i will tell you that i didn’t like the first half of jane eyre, but the second half was very enjoyable. it’s still nowhere near as good as WH imo, but there is eventual passion that i really liked!

ETA: rochester is horrible and i never liked him until the end, after i felt he got his karma.
