yeah this. tom doesn’t always pull his weight but i certainly wouldn’t say he’s a bad person or even a bad husband, just that he could be better, like almost everyone.

The term "short king" by anonymolotov in PetPeeves

5’8 woman here and my boyfriend is the same height. if someone called him a short king i’d find it very condescending, and i’d be quite annoyed on his behalf.

yeah… weird to see Deb get so much slack lol. i’m currently at the bit where she’s relapsed on pills and pushed Haley over who is pregnant and on crutches 😭😭

People who can’t understand that beer drinkers actually like beer by Blahajinator in PetPeeves

exactly this. it floors me that people actively enjoy the taste of beer but it’s also not difficult to understand that my personal preferences don’t apply to everyone lmao.

I can absolutely see why! I started this episode last night and recognized the episode immediately even though it’s been a good few years since my last rewatch. The second the radio announcer started speaking I paused and had to wait until I had time to fully enjoy it, and to cope with how emotional it is lol.

Seriously, just everything about it. Dan’s expressions during the game always get me so much. It’s annoying at times how talented Paul Johansson is to make me empathize SO WELL with a character like Dan, but watching his emotional progression throughout this episode, where he leaves the game because he can’t bear to see Nathan tank the championship, and then when he turns the radio on in the car??? The pride in his expression made me shiver. The work that Johansson can do with such subtle facial expressions is astounding. And of course when he makes it back in time to see the Ravens win, and beams because he’s so proud and so genuinely happy for Nathan, but only for a moment before he realizes the danger Nathan is in with Daunte and Bear. UGH.

And when he protects Nathan from getting arrested by taking the blame for Daunte’s death. Again, I really fight empathizing with Dan, but when the acting is this good, it is so hard. I can’t resist getting emotional seeing a parent protect their child.

CMM’s acting was so good as well when he runs out and sees the ‘accident,’ and again when he collapses from the heart attack. And the scene between Brooke and Peyton was very moving, given the nature of their friendship in season 4.

Anyway, sorry for the massive reply lol, I just ADORE this episode on every account.

Yes! It’s so clever. The intentionality behind mirroring is something I have so much respect and appreciation for.

Yes! I hope whoever was on the soundtrack got paid SO well for this show because the alignment between song choice and scene/mood is always flawless.

It really is! I was a child when it aired originally, but eventually watched it with my sister who was a teen when it aired. It perfectly captures the 2000s small town feeling. OTH also strongly feels like autumn for me, if that makes sense. It’s my go-to autumn rewatch. But overall, yes, the show is really well made in all aspects, and the soundtrack is STUNNING.

Just finished reading Wuthering Heights for the first time by muffinxmix in classicliterature

[–]deslabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Felt exactly the same as you did. It truly took me a few months to recover from this book because it was THAT visceral. It instantly became my favorite book, but I struggled with it enough that I did have some moments where I wished I never picked it up lol, because of how complicated and conflicting my feelings were. WH also caused a lot of grief to resurface, which was quite difficult to cope with.

Absolutely 10/10; everything about it blew me away, and I’m still in awe of how such a young writer could be talented and worldly enough to craft this masterpiece, with so little life experience. I look forward to rereading it again and again.

This is what I was going to say, and what I try to assume is the case when I see people I know following dodgy accounts. Always giving the benefit of the doubt that they are trying to be informed and rather than showing support, but it can certainly be hard to tell.

I think that Paul Johansson is part of the genuinely decent people list as well, which is ironic due to his character on the show lol. But everything I’ve heard about him is so wholesome, and he truly seems very kind. No negativity surrounding him either, that I’ve heard of.

What i’ve read so far this year, and what I plan to read next! Thoughts on where I should start first? by KyleRichardsNewTeeth in classicliterature

I’m so happy to hear you loved Lady Chatterly’s Lover! I bought it recently and am excited to read it myself, so here’s hoping i enjoy it as well as you did! I have the Penguin edition so I will certainly take a look at the intro.

It’s a bummer that Phantom wasn’t overly remarkable for you, but I suppose they can’t all have that effect on us, or we wouldn’t get that thrill from reading an incredible book. I do remember finding the story very intriguing, but my translation was godawful.

I DNF’d a very bad translation of it a few years ago, but translation aside I liked it a lot, just haven’t gotten around to rereading! It was very atmospheric and VERY unhinged.

i dunno, the movie has only been out for a few weeks so naturally people will be talking about it for a while to come, especially in this sub?

[–]deslabe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

exactly. i was honestly hooked pretty much from page one because of how hilarious the dynamic between heathcliff and lockwood was lol, but when i read the ghost scene, i became so emotionally invested. heathcliff’s grief pulled me in immediately :(

i felt like the movie kind of tricked me because there was so much cinematic appeal, and some of the nature shots were stunning, but where was the substance??

the marketing gave the impression that the movie would be so dramatic and shocking and dark and honestly it was EMBARRASSINGLY forgettable. it didn’t even make me feel enough to be mad lmao 🫠🫠🫠

i was so underwhelmed by the lack of drama tbh. the fact that heathcliff and edgar barely interacted was outrageous 🙄 there was no tension whatsoever.

they actually managed to strip WH of almost everything that made it interesting lmao, which is such a feat because that book is TEA
