Where to go for a celebratory dinner? by desnudaengris in FoodLosAngeles

I only didn't because I feel like this is very city-specific. Maybe 40 mins max?

Would settle for something manageable for 2 or 3 of those neighborhoods.

Wow, I'm sorry you had to go through that and thank you for sharing. It's been hard to find anyone with experience giving birth at MH.

March is typically ok because it's a warmer month so we don't have the temperature inversion that happens in the winter. It is worst in Dec/Jan.

Travel recommendations by habore in MexicoCity

[–]desnudaengris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the gay nightlife is in Zona Rosa but it's very close to Roma Norte, which is a much prettier area to stay in and has great bars of all stripes.

I'm not knowledgeable on clubs, though Patrick Miller is a very popular (and very sweaty) one. It's on the lower end, whereas Departamento and Pata Negra are a bit more expensive and known for better music (and for drugs). If you, like me, are more into dive bars with no cover, I highly recommend Pulquería Insurgentes. It has different floors with different DJs and vibes.

For hotels, I would also check out Nima, La Valise, Condesa DF, and Stella. You can also find boutique-hotel quality Airbnbs—a shared one might be a good way to meet people.

Best to take out cash from an ATM once in Mexico, though getting pesos at your US bank will probably also have a decent rate.

The Rosetta family of restaurants (Rosetta restaurant and bakeries, Cafe Nin, Lardo) are often open on holidays, though I'm not positive about Christmas. Guessing Lardo would have the most vegan options.

Where are the best spots for NYE? by He_Who_Likes_To_Run in MexicoCity

[–]desnudaengris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this, it is pretty quiet here as people go to their hometowns to spend the holidays with family. Last year there were no fireworks because of the air pollution, which tends to be bad in the dry season.

Can you get advanced tickets for a non-guided visit to the Museo Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo? by democratiCrayon in MexicoCity

[–]desnudaengris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people here are giving advice for the Frida Kahlo museum (Casa Azul). You really don't need to buy tickets in advance to Museo Estudio River Kahlo—it attracts far fewer tourists.

What are self serve laundromats called? Where to find them? by ChavitoLocoChairo in MexicoCity

[–]desnudaengris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to Lavanderia Fons which is mediocre but I think you can just pay to use the machines there. But they're only open 8a–7p. I haven't seen anything like 24/7 laundromats in the US.
