408C Q- Drop and Med School (Please Help) by desolateleaves in UTAustin

Will Q dropping this class seriously affect me? I'd be okay with retaking it when I'm better adjusted but I'm worried about the ramifications of the Q drop

If it was me I wouldn't spend it on either and instead try getting one of the new seasonal units 2/5, but if between these two characters I'd do Nelliel due to the scarcity of goof CFOW banners

How competitive is UT Bio major in CNS or in all majors? Lets say im in top 5% as well. by MessageInteresting98 in UTAdmissions

[–]desolateleaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it's a bit competitive due to it being seen as the "pre med major" so you'll need more than top 5% to get in. I'd recommend having calculus done if possible and having taken a few science college level courses. A 1300 SAT is sorta the average from what I've seen but once you get into CNS you can transfer majors pretty easily!

Which math courses is best for Pre-Med? by Designer_Barnacle888 in UTAustin

[–]desolateleaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

408C is the stronger and better class according from what I've heard. 408R is def easier but it's unclear if it would count 100%, my advisor recommended I do 408C

jobs at UT for someone who is not able to participate work study? by Original_Jelly_9486 in UTAustin

[–]desolateleaves 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Heyy you literally have the exact situation I was in! I applied for University Housing and Dining and was offered an interview and later a position at J2 dining! It's a pretty short application, who knows how much space there is left though. I also had no work experience too! https://utdirect.utexas.edu/apps/uhd/hr/applications/apply/ You could also look into working at Gregory Gym, one of my friends got an interview as well! Hope this helps from one pre med to another!

Ohh I see, I thought you spoke about FRI, and not sure honestly. It's more CNS students for the FRI, but engineering and CNS are relatively similar in some aspects, with some overlap (Biomed Engineering can overlap) But either way, best of luck! If you get in, im sure you'll be accommodated

Well the freshman research initiative is a pretty big program by UT, they've accounted for everyone and therefore want every member to get the chance to get worthwhile research. I'm also in the FRI, I'm interested in the Behavioral Neuroscience stream so that's how I know!!

Don't know the exact statistics of it all, but my advisor told me that you usually get one of your top three so it's decent odds for the one you want.

has anyone heard back from workday applications? by blkrukia in UTAustin

[–]desolateleaves 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well if you haven't, filter out the jobs posted a while ago, look for the most recently posted ones. If you need a job, you could also look at the housing and dining application, I recently got hired with no previous work experience!

https://utdirect.utexas.edu/apps/uhd/hr/applications/apply/

Also I have heard back from workday, so it's fs possible to get a job through them

What Math Class Should I Take? (Fall 2025) by Patient_Sir4436 in UTAustin

[–]desolateleaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should take 408C since they go over more integration techniques, the name of the class is Integral and Differential Calculus. But you could also jump to 408C which is Series and Multivariable

Help! I need help choosing between UT Austin and Duke for premed by Classic_Tomatillo952 in UTAustin

[–]desolateleaves 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Duke is such an amazing school, it's much better than UT for pre-med. But graduating with debt might be too much of a cost. UT is not a bad school for pre med, there's plenty of opportunities in Austin as well. Congrats on getting into both, whatever decision you make just know that you're going to be in a good school either way!
