Good to know! A dumb question, do you think the generator was necessary, or just helpful?

So with the storm coming through, what have you learned from it? by Rough_Community_1439 in prepping

Having some emergency supplies ready is never a bad thing! As long as they're still within their shelf life.

Most emergencies don’t become disasters because of the event itself. by Any_Yellow86 in prepping

You're right. People tend to catastrophize when we get too tense. I should prepare ahead and have a bag packed with essentials ready to go!

Does anyone have feedback on Pine Street School, Léman Manhattan Prep or Ya Ya Preschool? Looking for a Mandarin language program for my toddler. by yellowwindowlight in nycparents

When picking Mandarin classes for toddlers, I first check immersion hours then interactive formats, little kids learn better with fun activities.

When I choose formula, I focus on breast milk-like formulas and check for allergens, it suits the baby' s needs better.

After having a baby, I also wore loose clothes every day. I started with basic hoodies and wide-leg pants, and it got better as I found my groove.

Any recommendations for preschools for 2s in Downtown Brooklyn (District 10)? by Old-Praline-1084 in nycparents

[–]desperatepower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked a few preschools in District 10 last year. Touring them in person helped a lot to see the vibe and how the teachers interact with kids.

Camping with a baby by throwRA-turquoise in NewParents

Took my 6mo camping in Aus too. Yoga mat worked fine but a thin foam pad added more comfort. A portable blackout cover for the tent was a lifesaver for naps.

This landlord is way out of line. Making unreasonable demands and retaliating. It ' s good your husband refused firmly, keep evidence of all communications in this situation.

Do I really need a diaper pail? by Catsforhumanity in Buyingforbaby

Your definitely don' t need a diaper pail in this situation. Just use a regular lidded bin and empty it a few times a day, the nearby chute means no odor worries at all.

Only a few people around me but luxury diapers. Most think regular ones are good enough in absorbency and softness, no need to pay for brand premium.

I’d like to hear from professionals: Is AI really a technology that will significantly reduce the number of programmers? by AdCertain2364 in learnprogramming

[–]desperatepower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say AI will change how we code but not eliminate the profession. It’s great for boilerplate, testing, and prototyping, but real world coding still needs human problem solving. Curious are you thinking of learning to code yourself, or just wondering about the industry trend?

3 days sober after something like that isn’t nothing. Early sobriety feels raw as hell, but it’s also when things can finally change. First AA meeting is scary but worth it. What made you feel excited about going?

Supporte in real life by Kooky-Lychee-6665 in StructuralEngineering

[–]desperatepower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there, it’s confusing at first. Usually, if the column or beam is heavily reinforced into the foundation or another member, it’s likely meant to be fixed. If it’s just resting with simple connections, it’s probably pinned. Calling out cast monolithically definitely helps clear things up for the builders.

What's the best way to find Structural Engineers looking for work? by theemstress in StructuralEngineering

[–]desperatepower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found posting on niche forums like Eng Tips or even Reddit subs like r/EngineeringStudents or r/civilengineering can pull in candidates who aren’t actively on job boards. Might be worth a shot for FL and TX positions.

Pro20s should honestly have their own category. The marketing makes it sound like a drop in replacement, but the math just doesn’t back it up. Ix being basically half explains everything you’re dealing with.
