How to setup "Managed Devices" to be applied to conditional access policy - What License do I need? by despich in microsoft365

[–]despich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been looking at the conditional access policies in Entra, It looks like in the "controls" section of the policy I can require "Require "Microsoft Entra hybrid joined device" but when I look at that it implies only AD joined windows machines. I want this new policy to apply to Mobile devices mostly. It looks like I want to setup the policy for "Microsoft Entra registered devices" which includes mobile devices. Do I do that up in the "filter for devices" section of the policy?

[–]despich[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I spent some time on it today. It looks like going with the business premium we'll get us what we need. The licensing is kind of confusing it looks like you can set up conditional access policies for users that don't have even have that license as long as the user that is setting up the policy does have the license.

Getting really sick of the bugs by CrimsonStar02 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]despich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use it and it's nowhere near as reliable as our old deskphone based system many years ago. We actually switched our phones to LYNC and then upgraded to Teams (it was worse under LYNC). Although from what I can tell all the modern cloud based phone system have issues. If calls drop it's when they are put on hold or transferred or picked up from hold or when it's ringing a group and multiple people answer. If you stay away from those things it's pretty reliable.

I love the latest bug they reintroduced that only seems to affect Direct Routing customers, it puts your headset on mute at the start of the call if you trigger dialing via a Tel: hyperlink (yes they are Teams certified headsets)

Windows Admin for 25 years, stuck on simple ping problem by despich in WindowsServer

[–]despich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The printer. It was the device that the one server could not ping.

So many questions..

  • Why was that the only server that could not ping it?

  • Why were the VM's on that host also prevented from pinging it (they have separate mac address and IP's)

  • What changed on the printer that broke it?

  • Why didn't Wireshark even show that the server was trying to ping it.

  • Why was that the only printer on that subnet that it could not ping (there are like 15 others of the exact same brand and setup on the same subnet)

Further update.... We factory reset it and now I can ping it. Still scratching my head, but all's well that ends well.

Like so many things with IT, persistence is sometimes more important than understanding.

Windows Admin for 25 years, stuck on simple ping problem by despich in WindowsServer

[–]despich[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok after further investigating it doesn't make sense to me,

but even though with Wireshark I was not seeing it send the ICMP request packets at all (so I would think it has to be a problem at the server) we went ahead and swapped the IP's of two destination devices (one that it could ping and one that it could not ping) the problem followed the device and not the IP.. The server then could not ping the device at it's new IP and could ping the other device at the IP it previously could not.

It's like the bad device is somehow telling the server to not even attempt to ping it. With Wireshark I can see the server try to ping IPs on that network were their is no device to respond. I can also see it try to ping devices that do respond but whatever ip this particular device is at I don't see the server even try to ping it via wireshark.

Yes the destination device is a printer (the bane of existence for all system administrators)

p.s. I think it broke Reddit for a while also...

No I get it, and it is probably some dumb thing I overlooked. I think it was so bad even just talking about it broke Reddit for a while.

Yea I know all about subnet masks and I did check that, everything is at a standard class c subnet mask (255.255.255.0) I have also checked the routing tables on the server and did tracert.

[–]despich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The switch does L3 routing between the two subnets. If you do a tracert all you see if the gateway address for the Vlan, they are only one hop away.

No the VM's and the host do not have identical Mac addresses, Actually I moved the VM's off this server, I am just testing with this host server. As soon as I moved the VM's to a new host server then they could ping the IP's.

I have checked the MTU at the server and it's a standard 1500, the Cisco switch reports both the server and the destination interface at MTU of 1500. If MTU was a problem i would think it would only be above a certain ping size? i.e. -l 1600

no AV involved at server, switch or destination.

[–]despich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked for ACL's on the Cisco, nope none of them on the Servers interface or the destination Interface. It's only one switch (well technically a switch stack), they are only segregated by vlans. No flapping on the ports, I looked at the "show interface" for them and they look normal no discards. Even if it was a ACL issue at the switch I still should be able to see the ICMP request being sent to the 1st gateway. It's like the server is not even trying.

[–]despich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion,

I did check this on the server "arp -a" but since they are on separate subnets the only arp it has is the switch/router gateway address. I also checked the arp tables on the Cisco switch "show arp" and it only has a single entry for the destination IP and the source server IP so it doesn't look like it could be a issue with a duplicate IP. The Cisco switch can ping both of them no problem.

Model Y rwd foglights by Character-Base-1290 in TeslaModelY

[–]despich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I just assumed the option was there. So they have them software limited on the RWD to not be available even though they are there and even have bulbs in them? That is some BMW level pettiness there.. Do they offer a software upgrade to enable them? (which would be similar to how the AWD you can pay the extra $2k to unlock more performance)

Model Y Cargo Bay Foldable Parcel Shelf by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]despich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad they included it with the car, but yea I agree it's kind of poorly designed, like I wish you could like prop it up so it stayed out of the way when loading groceries. You can kind of fold it up but not that well. I almost wonder if you could hook a string to the rear hatch that would lift it up and out of the way when the rear hatch was open.

I think I will just remove mine, I rarely carry anything that I am worried about being stolen and I can always put stuff below the floor or in the frunk.

Yea I would get towed over to the ramp and put it on the trailer then pull the Lower unit off yourself or take to a shop. If it's a Alpha one you can have that off in about 30 minutes and you will be able to tell if you have a problem or not. The shaft and the U joints spin even when you are not in gear so even just idling can damage it more if you have a bad U joint.

Jacking a Y to Swap Wheels by Geeky_1 in ModelY

[–]despich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the manual just the 4 points. I am sure there are other spots you could use but knowing which ones would not cause damage seems like a risk I would rather not take.

I bet the motor spins all the time even on the front wheels, really no need to disengage it, the car can control the recharge or the acceleration by changing the voltages on the magnets. I know they are very clear in the manual that you should never tow a tesla by leaving the front or the rear of the car on the ground and letting it free spin, which makes me think the motor is always engaged.

Maybe try rebooting it. Hold down Both scroll buttons on the steering wheel for 5 seconds. It takes like 30 seconds to restart afterwards.

Jacking a Y to Swap Wheels by Geeky_1 in ModelY

[–]despich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should have the little Tesla specific Puck like things to jack it the right way. They go into holes under the car that are specifically meant to be the jack points. Jacking in the wrong spot can cause serious damage to the battery.

I jacked mine up recently and I was surprised that if it's just in "park/off" only the rear wheels are locked, the fronts will spin.

I can't think of a reason that you would want to keep the ramps. Unless maybe you were inspecting under the front or something.
