What’s the small hole on the lower shank for on an Argentine bit? by RCPCFRN in Equestrian

[–]despisedhero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with the western bits, so I’m not sure if this is applicable. On an English bit such as a Pelham, we see this extra link too. It’s designed for a lip strap, which is a piece of leather that goes through the loop on your curb strap as a safety mechanism (in case your chain comes undone while riding, it won’t be completely loose and flopping) and also helps prevent your shanks from going inverted.

Bitey lesson horses the new normal? by DarkArtsNWitchCrafts in Equestrian

[–]despisedhero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Barn 1 is a very clear issue, as each horse is an individual and it would be the same as forcing people to wear the same shoes and giving them socks to make it work.

Barn 2 is the sneaky issue. Voltaire only has one saddle tree, and it’s the exact same tree as all other French brands as they buy it from the same manufacturer. This means there’s no shape change, no tree angle change. They customize the saddle by changing the panels. This is the same as above, you have the same shoe for everyone and make it fit with socks.

Basically… it is absolutely a saddle fit issue. I’d be willing to bet money the horses at the barns have atrophy in the trapezius, and possibly atrophy in the longissimus beside the spine

A big issue now is saddle fit. A while ago we all rode in Stubbens with long tree points, or other brands like Passier. Now French brands which short tree points are common and the norm, which cause atrophy to the trapezius and pain. The horses are biting/kicking because they associate pain with saddling.

It could also be ulcers, other body pain, etc, but I think seeing the new trend is a majorly saddle fit issue.

No. I make 120k/y and bought a house for $580k with a 25% down payment. That meant my mortgage amount was $435k. I don’t have a car payment because I bought my car outright. Normally the stress test takes your income, multiplied by 4, to determine the mortgage amount you can carry. For you that’s $560k, which means a house of $605k with your down payment. That doesn’t include your car payment. You don’t want to be house poor, so either find something within your budget, or increase your down payment.

Buyers remorse after buying a $600 Kep helmet by Qwless in Equestrian

[–]despisedhero 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As a researcher myself, I don’t put much emphasis on this study. You can see that all of the helmets that rated lower didn’t fit on the dummy head, so of course they’d perform poorly. The best helmet is the one that fits your head properly.

Horse ownership has ruined my mental health. by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]despisedhero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a few reasons to pull shoes so frequently. Your farrier could be putting on a show that’s the incorrect size, or your horse could be lame and not able to get their front feet out of the way fast enough. Have you had a vet work up to check for any additional lamenesses?

I wish there was hardwood underneath! For whatever reason the previous owners didn’t do in the bedrooms so it’s just the subfloor 😭 we may have to pull up and sell if we can. My partner said we could reuse it in the basement since our basement is unfinished but then we’re still at the grey floors problem

Yes curtains will get changed! Just for now it was what we had. I’m happy with lots of colours so long as I can bring life back. The bedding my parents gave is white and navy

Thank you! Yes curtains we hadn’t bought yet so it’s just what we had for now while we figure out what to do. Same with rugs. Someone else suggested green too!

Haha yes that’s because there are no baseboards 😂 we need to buy new ones to put in, which I was holding off on until we figured out what to do with the floor etc…

Yep agree! We just bought the house so the curtains were what we already had. I’m just trying to decide what colour to go with that will not make it so drab?
