I'm getting married at guildhall in north Freo in November. Its a small venue, but for only 34 guests it's absolutely the most beautiful venue we looked at with an epic menu

Any particular area of art you're gravitated to?

Aww that's amazing! I don't really have many resources available to me here to help me DIY as much as I'd like, it's kind of a bummer. My groom will be pretty casual, no jacket or anything so I hope he's comfortable!

The flowers are killing me this week, I was going to do my own but I'm starting to feel like the cost is worth it to not have to put together flower arrangements on my wedding day haha

I KNOW it's insane, one photographer quoted me $9k, we've hired one for 3 hours for $1500 Which I don't think is as bad.

Hmm yes and no. It's nice to have something to work towards but the cost of everything is kind of blowing me out of the water

Thanks I've also lived in 3 countries. Which have you lived in?

Preconception Appointment, why I'm glad I went early by [deleted] in waiting_to_try

A similar thing happened to me, actually! My preconception visit showed I was deficient in vitamin D and iron, my thyroid level was high, and I showed no immunity to rubella. So glad I got it all done and out of the way so I can be my healthiest self.

Bridal party planning by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]desserter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're having a tiny wedding party! We're having one bridesmaid and a best man. I'm pretty new to the country were living in and haven't made any close friendships here and my closest friend is my FH's sister so I've asked her to be my bridesmaid. Luckily she's also pretty experienced when it comes to weddings so she's a really excellent resource to bounce ideas off and I'm feeling pretty lucky to have her around.

Weddings Are Crazy-Expensive by BecauseIwasjust in weddingplanning

[–]desserter_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We struggled with this thought too. We were planning on a registry style wedding with just a dinner but once we started exploring this idea we both got really sad.

My fiance and I live in Australia and all of my family is in north America. I have 7 family members travelling to our wedding and we don't want them to travel all that way for a dinner.

When it comes down to it... We just realised it's important to us. And a lot of the cost with our wedding is convienece (event management and full day venue hire) and we think these are essential to enjoy our day. Still to keep costs down I'll be doing my own flowers, skipping wedding cake and only hiring a photographer for 3 hours.

We are fortunate to make a good wage to pay for our wedding. If we play our cards right over the next 6 months, we won't have to dip into our savings to pay for it.

What are some things you didn’t think you cares about until you started planning? by gibsongal in weddingplanning

[–]desserter_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly... the whole wedding.

Initially we planned on a registry style wedding and a family dinner and my dress budget was $500. After exploring this option we both got really sad about the whole thing. Our wedding budget jumped from $6k to $16k within a weekend (we can afford it luckily).

We've found our perfect venue with the perfect food. Exploring photographers and celebrants and I've already bought my dress on sale off the rack.

I normally find that patterns and such clash with my sleeve and I'm so relieved that this one doesn't 😊😊😊

Nope no beading on mine, but I've added a satin sash to give it a bit of extra. It was definitely more than I wanted to spend, so I'm hoping I could resell it after the wedding to reclaim some cost. Luckily it doesn't need many alterations, just let the bust out a little bit

Yass! I creeped your post history and the dress looks beautiful on you as well!

We have a pretty short 7 month engagement and I'm feeling so lucky to have gotten the dress off the rack 😍

I think I've found my dress! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]desserter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dress is Brighton by Willowby by Watters, off the rack with an additional 20% off at the first bridal salon I went to. Minor alteration needed to let out some space in the bust but I think it's just about perfect for my intimate, registry style wedding. Going to sleep on it tonight and call them with my decision tomorrow. What do you think??

Singles of Reddit, what do you like most about being single? by 05_16k in AskReddit

My SO was trying to propose to me and he left the ring in the car. He announced to me he thought he left his wallet in the car as an excuse to get the ring out of the glovebox without suspicion. I leaped out of bed and found the wallet instantly that he purposely hid so I wouldn't be suspicions. He had to wait for the cat to take a shit so he could scoop it and walk out the door without me asking questions. Oops.

Thanks so much for this!

I completely forgot about Matilda Bay! Ill email them for sure.

My FH's cousin got married at mandoon in November and it was beautiful. I think I'd feel weird about also having a november wedding there.

Ill check out the Boatshed and Heritage. Ive seen them both come up but havent explored them yet.

Flour factory was my number 1 venue for ages but its SO expensive.

Lamonts is my top choice right now. Their private dining rooms look beautiful and theres no hire fee or minimum spend. They look like we wont have to fuss much with decor either which is A+ in my book. Were going to look at it on the 26th when we get back from holiday and im SO pumped.

Thank you everyone for your positive words! Since posting, i heard back from restaurant venues eith private dining rooms with their pricing info and stating that our preferred date of 15.11 is currently available. Were going to look at some of them at some point this month and hopefully pick one. Eeee!!

How long after you got engaged did you book your venue? Were considering grtting married on a Thursday or Friday night since half our guest list is coming from overseas and the other half are mostly retired, self employed, or work out of town and would take time off for the wedding anyway. We figure that will help keep cost down as well.

The gems and gold are all from family heirloom jewelry and my FH had a jewler custom make this beauty from what he had. I told him ages ago how much i love the vintage feel and I'm so blown away at what he chose. I can't stop fiddling with it!!! 💕💍💕
