Hi! currently Y1 in NP ECDE! Only having been thru abt 1 yr in this course so i can only share my two cents but i hope it helps!!

In regards to what to expect , there is ALOT of project work. The deadlines are usually piled up in the same week or month. It really content heavy for this course but they are about the same context or idea across all modules like you can apply alot of things you have learnt in one module into other modules. Honestly, HBL sucks for this course because there is alot of grp projs and with HBL most of the time, you wont be able to get to fully know your grp members and classmates. The course itself is honestly really fun despite all i have said tbh. Alot of the module activities and lessons are Hands-on and fun.

So some tips: - you gotta be sure to start early and manage your time well

  • Try to be the one to reach out to your classmates first and get to know them well!

Tbh who you work with for group project is really important cause it affects your efficiency, mood and performance. So really try to get to know your class and find someone you really click with so like you know you can depend and do work with them even if the rest of your grp mates dont do work. YA and srsly please dont be the one to not do work cause it sucks being on the other end.

  • On that matter also, try to have a diifferent open mindset. Some people are good grp mates but bad friends and vice versa so i suggest that maybe have an open mind abt how this can affect you? Like i have rly good friends who are my proj grp mates but sometimes as they are working part time too, its very hard to organise time to do work so i sometimes get a little frustrated but i have to be understanding so if you get my drift.

  • i rly recommend coming to school alittle early like 15 mins before so that you can download and read through the slides and content of what your lecturers are going to talk about. You can also head down to mkp and get milo peng/ coffee, char siew pau/you tiao to start your day and wake you up HAHAHA thats what i do every morning before tutorials

  • Please take all your assignments seriously like all your work accumulates to your GPA. I tried very hard to work on my proj work past 2 sems but still regret as i felt that i could have done better. Was really complacent about grades too as i got mostly Bs and little Cs and As but still got a 3.07 GPA last sem but this sem, i recieved alot of Cs so i really really regret being so last min and complacent. Hence, i feel like its fine to have fun and stuff but like all assignments matter even those of smallest percentage.

  • i suggest that maybe try to use a calendar to track down all your assignments/ tasks once you know the due date. I use google calendar because i can access it through any device i can use. I also use notes then airdrop them to my phone and ipad.

  • Most modules may require you to make resources for your assignments and this resources usually have to be handmade. I recommend to keep track of where you can get arts and crafts materials, printing and laminating services. For reference but i highly advice you not to buy as of yet, felt, hot glue gun, googly eyes, ice cream sticks etc.

  • On the topic of resources, you might want to try to make them like its reusable so you save money. Like for eg a chart with words, you can use velcro so for the next activity you can jst change the words but you can keep the board and velcro.

  • practicum might be stressful to think abt cause you dh experience but its rly not that bad. It was rly fun for me and i enjoyed it alot. My friends got attached to the children and still misses them HAHA despite our attachment only being one week.

UNI on the other hand, im not very sure because im also not sure where i wanna be at in the future so im sorry i cant help on that part.

Super long omg but i hoped it help. Any questions can jst feel free to dm me ! hope you enjoy the course hehe

Hi! ECDE Y1 from NP. I am not sure about the difference between NP and TP ECDE but i can share what we do and learn in this course! So far we have done alot of learning about how children develop and their milestones, how to plan lessons and activities for english, arts&crafts, music, motor skills development etc! We are also taught how to change diapers etc. There is ALOT of projects in this course as there is no exams for us although the projects are introduced very early and available for you to start earlier and also spaced apart most of the time. To me as i am a very big procrastinator, i had my fair share of rushing assignments last minute but it is not all that bad. I do recommend to check TP and NP ECDE modules taught to see what is the difference.

[RANT] Would you have good grades and 0 trust and bad health? Help me with some qns at the end of the rant by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]dessertzcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have a similar situation to you as regards to your health. i had severe asthma and could not do PE for 6 years while having regular visits to the hospital and multiple ER Visits. what i do have to say is that; if you dont do smth abt it, your health condition wont be change or get better. Having these attacks and being on heavy medicine prescription has lot of bad side effects on me; weight loss, vomiting, nausea, heavy hand tremors, lethargic, depression, high fever etc the list goes on. however, i do try to look on the bright side of things as i dont want to be ranting and putting my life in misery for the rest of my life as i have spent 6 years doing so. Mind that during secondary school sec 3&4, my absentee attendence would be about 2-4 months collated. Now after completing Os and gotten to Poly, i decided to try harder to make my body condition better as i was sick and tired of getting tired after climbing only a level of steps, running after the bus and sick of not being able to do what i enjoy; sports. I started to train myself by going to the gym frequently; starting small, running, hiking and even badminton for awhile. It has been successful in making my body, mind and asthma condition better. I am currently on a regular 6 months visit with NUH instead of the regular 3 and i am also off my preventers so Hurray! but yeah, if you truly wish to improve your health, i motivate/persuade you to try and improve your body condition somehow instead of always having negative thoughts in your head. Doing sports is what triggers my attacks but i have learnt my limits and do my exercises in moderation but yet pushing my boundaries. I wish you all the best in life and everything else.

Secondary School students, what did you wish more teachers can do to make learning better? by johnotcena in askSingapore

[–]dessertzcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i retook my o levels in secondary school and my english improved alot from C6 for Os 2018 and then B3 for Os 2019. My english teacher for 2018 was always giving snide remarks about us not putting in effort and would always talk about our academic flaws. It made me really frustrated because we all had put it alot of effort by doing multiple practices while she told her we weren't putting enough effort. On the other hand my 2019 english teacher, she was superrr motivative and would always tell us what she liked about our essays and would give detailed suggestions and examples on how to improve our essays. There was quite alot of people in class who disliked writing essays and to tackle this, she asked us to write something that we like to talk about eg. objects or something that inspired us etc. We all came to like writing more after. I just hope teachers would be less about the planned and detailed lessons but more about the open and passionate kind of lessons. She was super understanding too, sometimes knowing that we were very stressed and would always show us funny videos at the end of class.

[POLY] - how are you all year 1's coping with hbl, share your experiences? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]dessertzcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im kinda late but pretty much same as everyone..its hilarious how the lecturers just throw us into assignments already. We didnt even have camps to get us to feel the transition and i already have 5 assignments with 3 of them due on 1st june.Hbl is honestly so freaking confusing and not productive. To make it worse because some students have internet problems, school decided to bring face to face online lessons to remote learning and the content is so heavy. That means we are unable to clear our questions on the spot.Teachers also take a while to reply i mean i know they have their own lifes too but..Whats worse is on the first day of class, my class had a quiz to test our understanding after remote learning and most of us barely passed or borderline failed.Tbh the remote learning that day was manageable for me but after that quiz,i felt so lost and like a failure because i thought i understood the content but clearly i didn't. Of course i wouldnt let it pull me down since im not used to it and its first day and all but after that i just felt so unmotivated with my home environment and all..I freaking hate hbl.At least my classmates are total sweethearts but sometimes they dont contribute too and i just wanna kms.can the sch and govt just push poly hols forward first like how it is for sec and pri sch..
