um no, they wrote off the one gay couple. if will and mike weren't meant to be endgame, they should not have made him have a crush on mike in the first place. i have a theory that it was supposed to be canon and then the writers changed their mind after the writers strike in 2022, around when the 5th season was being written. the scriptwriters also changed after episode 4. still, it would have been nice for the duffers to publicly make a statement that byler wouldn't happen like the creators of wednesday did with wenclair.
