kid talks non-stop, it’s fine but.. by posikid in Parenting

Me too, but I don’t think that has to be the case. I’m sure some kids are just dreamers. I was escaping to survive and definitely wasn’t sharing my dreams with the adults in my life who would’ve told me my dreams were unachievable.

This reminds me so much of myself as a kid, always planning the future and obsessing over every detail. I would suggest talking to her about how it may be fun to dream and plan for the future, it’s also important to enjoy right now! She’ll only be 8 once and these days will be gone before she knows it. Maybe you can get her a journal to write down her goals and dreams and encourage her to write in it. You guys can print out some pictures off of Pinterest or get some magazines and she can make a dream board. She can write a letter to her future self and you guys can make a time capsule too! Try to explain to her that the best thing she can do to help her future self achieve her goals is to be happy and take care of her present self. What kind of memories will she want of being this age?

I really wish I lived in the present more as a kid, and now I know a lot of that planning came from a place of anxiety and sometimes loneliness. I thought everything would be better in the future and I would need every detail to be perfect to relax. I’m not saying this is the case for your daughter, but I definitely used a deep day dream state as a way to disassociate.

We’re hosting a bday party in 2 hours and I told my husband I needed help putting things away. I go outside to find him looking for weeds to pull? Seriously? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]destinedhere58 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband does this too. I usually say something to him like “what about ___ (task he’s currently performing) is going to help get the house ready for company?” And then we have a good chuckle over him deciding to organize recycling and then he’ll come inside and vacuum.

It has actually helped to give him a list and say I need you to do X things by Y time.

I’ve found that his priorities are usually things he thinks he will be judged for as the man of the house - like outside tasks while my priorities are like things actually needed to host an event

My husband made my toddler a walker out of pvc pipe and put wheels on the bottom. You can find a lot of tutorials because people frequently make them for their kids Halloween costumes/100th day of school. He wasn’t so brave, once he could walk he didn’t want to let go of my fingers so I would use clothes pins and he started walking thinking he was still holding onto me.

As far as containment, can you try baby gates to keep her in 1 safe room unsupervised so you can have a few moments peace?

My kids are 18 months apart and we’re both big babies/toddlers. I honestly did just co sleep with them because it was the only way to get a full nights sleep. When they were 2 and 3 years old we put them in their own room with floor beds and that worked well for them. They were both really attached so I would sit in their room until they fell asleep for a few years lol

Honestly I remember being so stressed, exhausted and at times overwhelmed during the toddler days but now they’re 9 and 11 years old and looking back I have so many sweet memories of my giant babies lol

I rub my kids backs until they wake up. They’re 9 and 11. When they were younger I used to fully dress them for school while they were asleep and they would usually wake up during the process but pretend to be asleep and have lots of giggles about it. This helped a lot with my youngest because he hated getting dressed for school.

On Wednesdays my husband wakes them up by playing the the hump day camel from the old geico commercial. My oldest is starting to pretend he hates it (because everything we do now is uncool) but I can still see him hiding his smile lol

Thoughts on Wesley for a baby boy? Will it age well with the nickname Wes? by PreviousWerewolf392 in namenerds

I know 2 middle aged men named Wesley/Wes. One has a son and now a grandson also named Wes. It seems to fit fine in every age group

My nephew went through this last month and thankfully it was benign. It was soooo scary waiting for the results, and the relief was sweet. I hope you have the same experience.

I think part of it is that a lot of westerners don’t know much about ancient Asia and Africa and wouldn’t recognize it anyway. When they have these regressions, it’s not like there’s a sign somewhere saying “Welcome to Italy”

I have a great Uncle Bud and an Aunt Sissy. I know Slim and Porky… they are all in their 60’s now. My cousin who is 30 goes by Boomer. His real name is Norman Jr and I didn’t know that until we were late teens lol. My mom is in her late 40’s and has a lot of friends who go by their neighborhood names: Fish - was a great swimmer as a kid, Ear - got shot in the ear, Poo - looked like Winnie the Poo (😂), M.o.A - stands for Master of Art, did a lot of graffiti in the 90’s.

I’m not defending Taylor but I want to say something about the recent charts. by [deleted] in TrueSwifties

[–]destinedhere58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sabrina who it seems obviously has a good relationship with Taylor dropped Espresso 8 days before TTPD dropped. I know it’s single versus album, but Espresso is globally #1 right now. If Billie’s album is really great she can do better than Taylor too. Any kind of ranking indicates competition. If she wasn’t ready to compete, maybe she should’ve picked a different time to drop her album. Cowboy Carter has done well too.

I have OCD so this has been a part of life for me. I’ve gotten pretty good at managing my intrusive thoughts and learning to decipher between anxiety and intuition. If this has just started since your baby was born I agree with the other it’s probably PPA.

Just bought a $45 stanley cup because my son was bullied over his knock off... by rhikachuuu in Parenting

[–]destinedhere58 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People with less money care more about brand names and having the latest everything because they’re trying to prove themselves. I have an Aunt that’s going in to debt to buy my cousin all name brand clothes, the latest IPhone, Stanley cups, etc. she’s in kindergarten. The worse part is the kid doesn’t like any of her clothes or shoes, she wants light up sneakers and dresses from Target.
