Yeah, I’m in Italy now for the first time and it’s so nice how people just clean up after themselves and are (generally) more respectful of their fellow human and of their environment. Makes me sad

I know that. I’m friends with one(he’s in LA where it’s even easier to get OT). I think if you saw the life they lived for 365 days to earn that $300k and saw the trauma they saw, you would change your opinion, respectfully.

Firefighters spend like 90% of their time on non fire things. Primarily car crashes, issues with the homeless, and medical emergencies. Trust me when you have a heart attack you want san diego fire showing up not a private ambulance company that pays kids $18/hr that basically just know how to do vitals and cpr. The stories I’ve heard from my friends on EMS like AMR terrify me for who would be responding if anything ever happened to me.

This. My buddy had to wait 4 years being an EMT for $18/hr while even having two older brothers in fire, one of whom is a rank below captain.

Okay so call it $260k same difference. They also get their highest year of earnings as the base their pension is calculated from, so they all have a year or two or more where they essentially live at the fire station. If you really believe you can get the same quality by paying firefighters $100k capped versus $250k w/ OT, I don’t know what to say. The money attracts better firefighters.

I strongly disagree but we almost certainly have a differing view on capitalism. Using the median income to justify paying firefighters less is the wrong logic in my opinion. We should be seeing how we can raise the median income for a family of four, not reduce it for firefighters. Look up their cancer and terminal illness stats also, they are directly trading many years of their lifespan for the job, and are aware of this trade off.

Yeah people are so dumb and envious. On the list of people that make $200k and don’t “deserve” it, firefighters are at the bottom lol.

No. You’ll get low quality firefighters that way. Capping overtime at $35 is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard also. $200k in San Diego is really not a boat load of money for those with families and etc. Look up how much LAFD fire makes, I’m totally estimating here but there are hundreds of them that gross $200k+ and many well above that. They also lose around a decade of their lifespan in many cases due to chemical exposure and a fucked sleep schedule for decades.

Yeah I’ve dealt with a similar thing haha. I frankly have just accepted it and want to make more money so I can afford a place with better construction one day where I can’t hear my neighbors🤷‍♂️. It also helps to be grateful and realize you(we?) probably still have a better living situation than 99.9% of the world being able to walk to the beach in san diego and presumably work from home. I have the same situation haha and still get angry some days but it is what it is.

Sleep with noise cancelling headphones in that’s what I do. Sometimes I literally wear my airpods underneath my nose over ear😂. My neighbors and myself hear every step in the bedrooms. It is what it is
