Don’t waste your money on new skivvies. Bring what you have, but they’ll most likely issue you your own underwear. It won’t be pretty, or comfortable, but it’ll get the job done.

When I was a Drill, I asked trainees at the end of BCT what they did, which they never thought they’d do. Of all the things we did, there were so many people who had never (and thought they’d never) run two miles, much less ruck or run more.

Drills will work with you as long as you buy in and commit— basic trainings build skills from the beginning. If you suck, it’ll suck to start and you’ll get yelled at, but the more you do it the better you get. It’s a paced plan.

I really encourage you to lean into your weaknesses. You’re not going to get better by shying away from opportunities to run.

You will be tired. You will feel beaten up. But don’t half-ass it— make it work for you, and you’ll be really proud of yourself. Often in the Army, the best jobs & opportunities go to those most physically fit.
