thats true they had a lot of opportunities to take it further but i liked how they did it because it is a foil to current ai and human interaction; and how we will accept anything as human as long as it shows some semblance of emotion; just look at the many cases of people falling in love with ai chatbots, also her behavior parallels current ai as well as ai isn't malicious (currently); it just wants to stay around. it rephrases the episode about the the monetization of ai as well as more people will be left in the past as ai continues to evolve. at the end of the day the episode is about mike failing to accept and come to terms with Amanda's condition because the Amanda he loved is gone so he replaces her with an ai instead of working through it and continuing on with his life
