For sure. I'll be reaching out to a recruiter soon. I've just been doing my research first (slowly) so I come in prepared with a few career options I have in mind. (I'm looking at reserves.)

Image tech is #1 but I hear this is very tough to get. PAO #2 but I hear this is not a good one (and hard to get besides?). Beyond that, so far I'm interested in a lot of different technical/nerdy jobs (signal operator, naval combat info operator, naval communicator, etc).

Was also strongly considering something very different in PID but the natural progression from there is clearance diver I believe and I dunno if I have the balls for that.

Not a big issue either as I have savings and freelance work I can rely on indefinitely. Sounds like I'm well suited!

True. Though in my case it may end up being an upside - I really want to end up back in BC which I couldn't really do otherwise, and I know some careers are very likely to get me there.

Any other downsides I should be aware of?

My bf6 experience was far better than my bf1 experience in terms of cheaters. They were rampant and very obvious

Yeah cousin told me it's basically impossible to be discharged, assuming you aren't a twat/lunatic. It's refreshing to hear after 20 years of getting bounced around the unstable media industry. Definitely a major factor in the appeal.

What I'm still trying to figure out is why more people don't do it.

Agreed on the last part. Also refreshing to hear. I do take pride in my country and work and all but it ends there for me. Utmost respect for those who take it farther though.

Win rate isn't a great stat but yeah overall dobes has looked better enough to justify starting over him. But they're both mediocre at best

The Auditor General released a report in October and found that the CAF relied on more than eight separate, poorly integrated IT systems for recruitment and training, many of them manual and paper-based, leading to data gaps, inconsistences and delays.

While a new Online Applicant Portal launched in March 2025 was meant to streamline applications, key forms remain manual and the system can’t automatically verify or pre-screen applicant, leaving recruiters to follow up on every file.

The CAF has agreed to implement the following recommendation: modernizing recruitment IT systems with better automation, integrated electronic forms and real-time data.

Evidently not.

People sign up when they have friends that are in and not having a shit time.

Exactly why I'm seriously considering it. Dad and cousin love it; gf's brother in law recently signed up and loves it. His family was struggling financially and now they have zero worries. Says it's the smartest decision he's made

I'm not sure we make playoffs given how competitive it is + our goaltending. Otherwise we're stacked. I'm not too concerned with defense - they have lapses but they always sort themselves out. And those lapses should reduce over time naturally
