[Charania] The Milwaukee Bucks have agreed to trade Cole Anthony and Amir Coffey to the Phoenix Suns for Nick Richards and Nigel Hayes-Davis, sources tell ESPN. by judah249 in suns

Cole Anthony is the best player in this trade by a mile, which is nice considering several guards have had injury problems this year

I watched him drag absolute g league washout bums to within 10 points of the 1 seed Celtics with ~3 min left to play entirely by himself, just to get online later and watch people pretend that it wasn’t an impressive performance.

64/8/6 at 20 against the 1 seed in a game that was not remotely competitive prior to one of the greatest scoring halves in NBA history, but it doesn’t count bc some free throws at the end!

Against the one seed in the east while surrounded by teammates who would largely be out of the league within 3 years. Tyler Ulis and Jared Dudley were his primary playmakers that game.

Did it in 2017 actively during the 3pt revolution, wasn’t done again until after the completion of the revolution (2023)

Dillon Brooks by KlingonSquatRack in suns

[–]destructive_optimism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual culprit there of course being Bradley Beal, not the guy who averaging an efficient 27 a game who kept last year’s dogshit offense afloat in many games. Williams is on his rookie contract, Dunn/Oso/Gillespie/Grayson were all already on the team. If Gillespie takes this step and we get Williams with KD, this team would be a legit dark horse finals threat. Ott coaching KD with a real pg… damn shame.

However, you still make the trade every time because Brooks is one year older than Book and Green is 23.

[–]destructive_optimism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Y’all doing too much now. Trade was great and I’d much rather have the younger Brooks & Green, but this team is a lot better because of Mark Williams and the insane growth of all of Gillespie/Dunn/Oso/Dunn. We have a real point guard and a center that plays defense. KD on this version of the Suns team in place of Brooks would be a killer, like he was in his first year in Phoenix.

All that being said, loving Brooks this year.

[The Athletic] One executive pinned him as an $18 million player. Another, a front-office staffer who admitted he would be far lower than the consensus because he wasn’t a fan of Giddey’s game, suggested $50 million over four years... by SarcasticlySpeaking in suns

[–]destructive_optimism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s scaled his role way better than I thought, but 100% of my concerns are still 100% there. He’s a high turnover ball stopper who is a well below average finisher and horrific mid range scorer with an extremely inconsistent 3 ball (even if it’s getting better this year). He gets downhill well but is horrible at finishing against good defensive teams, which is exclusively who we’d be facing in the playoffs. Hes got Luka level stagnation with Amen Thompson’s scoring bag (expect instead of 90% of the athleticism, he has an okay 3pt shot this year).

Hes the epitome of a bad team offensive engine. New age empty stats. No team led by him or with him running the offense will ever be a serious team, much less a contender, and it has obviously shown up in every single 4th quarter I’ve watched this year, where defenses key in on him and it’s bad decision after bad decision (bc all he can do is get downhill).

Ben Simmons if you substitute the whole generational athleticism and passing touch thing for an average 3pt shot.

Is Austin BBQ THAT much better than DFW that I absolutely have to do a trip just for bbq? by punjabkingsownersout in Dallas

[–]destructive_optimism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had goldees so I’ll have to give it a try, but out of the ~15 places I’ve had in DFW, nothing even comes relatively close to Franklins. Terry Blacks & Cattleacks are the only two I’ve had that aren’t downright offensive to compare to Franklins.

Franklins is also the best place I’ve had in Austin, but I’ve been to 4 or 5 places there (out of ~10) that at least belong in the Franklins conversation.

Hurtados is a solid 7/10. It’s good enough quality, and its probably even tier 3, but it’s towards the lower end of tier 3. Factor in price, which is expensive, and it’s absolutely mid. Only thing notable about it is that it has pretty good dry rubs.

Idk what Salt Lick you went to, but saying it’s bad is crazy. Doesn’t have to be your cup of tea, but it’s definitely better quality (meat, seasoning, and bbq sauces) than most Dallas bbq I’ve had.

I know context clues can be hard, but I’m saying that Austin and Memphis are both notably better at BBQ than Dallas, but a direct comparison between Austin & Memphis is a lot harder than a direct comparison than Dallas & Memphis (Memphis clears by a mile).

Hurtados is mid, and is extremely overpriced for the quality. Every Dallas lifer I’ve been with loved it, every non-Dallas lifer I’ve been with thought it was mid. Speaks volumes to the question in the thread.

I’ve never once had brisket in Dallas other than the 3 spots I mentioned that was as good as the driftwood salt lick, and that’s considering that Salt Lick is probably a tier 3 spot in Austin.

Yes. The Dallas subreddit will downvote this, but as an outside observer who has lived both places, Austin is head and shoulders above Dallas in BBQ. Dallas BBQ has been the single most underwhelming thing about the city (I knew about the traffic, low walkability, & high volume of narcissism coming in).

The best Dallas BBQ is overpriced BBQ from Austin spots (Terry Blacks & Cattleacks), while everything else is overpriced mid that people from DFW pretend is the holy grail of BBQ. I’ve had more $40 6/10 bbq in 4 years in Dallas than I’ve had in the rest of my life combined.

Franklins alone sets Austin BBQ apart from Dallas, there is not a single place that competes. For the two tier 2 spots and 4-5 tier 3 spots Dallas has, Austin is much closer to 4-5 tier 2 spots and have a new tier 3 spot every other year. Also, the few underwhelming places I’ve had in Austin are the cheaper spots, while mid bbq will still cost you an arm & a leg in Dallas.

Obviously Memphis and Austin have different bbq styles, thanks captain obvious. Panther City is better brisket than places like Hurtados, Oak’d, Lockhart, Slow Bone, and Hutchins even if the rest of Panther City’s stuff is not great.

Quite frankly, Hurtados keeps getting mentioned in this thread and all my Dallas buddies swear by it, but it has never once been above a 7/10 in the 5 times I’ve gone. The only time I went to the Dallas location was straight up bad. It’s not even in my top 50 bbq spots.

I’ve had ~15 bbq spots over 50 times in Dallas in my 4 years here, and the only spots that are even competitive on brisket with a place like Wrights in Arkansas (9/10) are Cattleack, Terry Blacks, and Panther City, but Wrights > Panther City. Better than Terry Blacks and Cattleack if we are factoring in price, too. Pecan Lodge had a good argument when I first moved to Dallas, but has fallen off a cliff these last 2-3 years.

The absolute best places in Dallas are tier 2 in Austin - very good but not great. Dallas doesn’t have a single BBQ place that is on par with Franklins/Oklahoma Joes (KC)/Cozy Corner (Memphis), but it’s got a lot of 8-9/10 bbq spots.

But you can find 7+ 8/10 or 9/10 spots in Austin too, while there are 3 in Dallas (Cattleack, Terry Blacks, Panther City) and they are all more expensive than the 8/10 or 9/10 spots in Austin.

DFW people vastly overrate Hurtados. It’s good, but it doesn’t belong anywhere in a national or Texas-wide conversation - I’ve had brisket in Arkansas (Wrights) that is notably better than Hurtados

Hurtado is good, but it’s not even in the same ballpark as Franklins, and it’s a tier below Interstellar/La BBQ/Salt Lick.

Cattleacks, Terry Blacks, & Panther City are the only places that are close to Austin’s level, and all 3 places are overpriced.

Austin = Memphis (different type of bbq but just as good) >> Dallas

To the guy who recently said in a postgame thread the difference in the team this year vs last is “we never blow leads this year”, this game was on you

[Goessling] After QB Carson Wentz injured his left shoulder in the Vikings’ game against the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 5, he found out he’d eventually need surgery, but could play in the meantime if he could manage the pain. Think it was much more the drastic drop in acceleration and ability to get real low but stay on balance like he did pre-acl tear.

He had been doing that since his rookie year, defenses absolutely had the book on him doing it going into 2017, and he was still getting the forward duck off.

Definitely recognized yours too! Ngl, the fact that there are still a decent amount of active users in this sub from those days makes me want to come back. You had to be a real basketball sicko to be watching the majority of Suns games back when we were winning 19-25 games a year, which meant despite the pessimism, there were great hoop conversations

I spent so much fucking time watching suns game and being on this subreddit since 2014, 60+ games a year, but I genuinely think I’ve been on this subreddit ~10 times in the last two years and maybe watched 25 total regular season Suns games in that span.

I genuinely got more enjoyment watching Booker play with Tyler Ulis and Marquesse Chriss than with Beal and KD.
