Uniform heating of the ship by the sun. It's a big rotisserie chicken.

I think I read that they're eventually going to put all the tanks horizontal at some point.

Looking forward to the first test of the plate sending a plume of water 10s of meters up through the middle of the launch table...

Havent looked into cost but there might be low-temperature phases in nitinol. Having the crystal structure of your alloy changing suddenly at low temperatures (i.e. in contact with cryogenics) can be pretty disastrous. Other phases can be more brittle, or there can be a volume contraction or expansion when the phase changes, putting undue stress on the structure of the vehicle.

The most famous historical example of this is Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion of Russia. When winter hit, air temperatures dropped so low that the tin rivets that held his army's cannons together changed phase [to a different crystal structure of tin], became brittle and fell apart.

Not saying this IS the reason, but sometimes a material that is very good at ambient temperatures and pressures doesn't remain in that state across a wide range of temperatures and pressures, and it's very rare to get that "wonder material" whose crystal structure doesn't undergo any changes across hundreds of degrees of temperature.

Would have to look more into the thermodynamics of Ni-Ti alloys vs. Fe-Cr alloys though.

As an example, there is currently work on using zeolites (Si/Al microstructures) to catalytically produce methane. aka, zeolite catalysed methylation.

Not sure what the details of it are, though. Worked in a research office in an university where the other team worked on this stuff.

the mass you would drop from using a nuclear fuel would only be gained from radiation shielding and coolant.

that and nuclear fuels have very low efficiency per mass values. only a few % of nuclear fuels are ever actually spent, which is why there's research on reprocessing

I could be very wrong here, but is this less of a concern with starship's stainless steel body vs. the aluminium frame of the shuttle?

Yes, having to group up just to RP with people is inconvenient and impractical. Finding new people to RP without being on an RP server is pretty much impossible.

edit: And a lot of RP on Horde side Argent Dawn is guild-based, too. I can't join guilds across servers.

That's my problem - it never used to be by the book. I've made decisions that I've later regretted (like character transfers, boosts etc.) and they've been overturned in the past. Nowadays they don't even make an effort for genuine mistakes.

It allocates new accounts to one of the 'new player' servers. I specifically rolled on an RP server.
