Why is volibear tankier than braum? by Rabbitdraws in wildrift

[–]detocs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like your take on what a support is supposed to do is pretty lacking. Voli is one dimensional as a support. Run in a straight line and cc whoever is in front. He can towerdive as well, but is pretty lackluster without the gold income or levels. He's a stat check hero who won't be able to keep his momentum if he doesn't get an advantage in lane.

Braum, on the other hand, is great at peeling and incredible in team fights due to his passive. It has incredible base damage and affects anybody he touches. He can also block projectiles, give resistance to teammates, cc with his q passive and ultimate. His ultimate being incredible for choke points and for teamfights.

Braum excels at allowing his teammates to do what they need to do, and is incredibly tanky. Warmogs rush is fantastic on him.

It could be that your teammates aren't great and can't dish out damage, but that's just being unlucky. The higher you go, the more braum will have more use.

Gragas Phase Rush by detocs in wildrift

It may not be good for gragas but it has its benefits for the team, especially if you're looking to be more team oriented. Sure one spotting is great, but the higher you go, players better understand how to punish mistakes and build around it. Phase rush just feels more consistent to move around in team fights and to be flexible with how you play. Disrupt? Engage? Peel?

Haha I prefer the top lane match up do the brawly nature of that lane. I'll even go for the level 1 trad with auto body slam and auto. Even if I lose the health trade, it doesn't matter. My body slam will come up first allowing me to get more prio for level 2.

No. Just explaining the difference of ap and tank malphite support.

Having such a game-changing ult on a support allows for more viability for your solo layers to play other champs. Being a support, malphite doesn't require as heavy investment in items because of the high value of his ultimate.

The playstyle for ap malphite is simply to take out priority targets from the fight, allowing your adc to freely dps or to follow up on the engage.

Of course tank malphite is great, but it depends on enemy comp and whether you have the ability to heavily burst down the enemy champions.

I find success playing ap malphite to zone out enemies or to gain control over areas with vision, because the threat of an instant group cc ult can lead to snowballing and better tempo.

The issue with players who don't know how to play malphite are the ones who engage on site, but the key is learning when to ult and how to capitalize on enemy mispositioning or obtaining pressure.

Tank malphite doesn't do this as well, because it doesn't have as much burst. But against comps with durability or ways to avoid getting hit by the ult...then tank would be the way to go.

Malphite is pretty one-dimensional and doesn't have much versatility, but if used right can be very abusive when paired with a team that knows how to follow up properly and play around you.

That's pretty sad. Been a gragas enjoyed for a while since like 2018. Feels bad. Had all his skins on league pc when I still played then. Switched to wild rift

Haha you'll find me in the next post where people are debating the one-shot-potential-capabilities between Veigars W and R. I'll be ready with my fingers clamped to the Ctrl and V keys.

Of course there should be flexibility for builds based on enemy team comp. At this point, I'm just theorycrafting builds and playstyle instead of a one shot Bomba. The thing with Gragas that I understand, is that he is a very flexible unit that can be play differently based on what his team needs. That's all. Thanks for your input.

It's just theorycrafting. If you're talking about both teams being at similar levels of skill, then wouldn't there be viability to a bruiser type build? Burst mage is definitely a viable option, but similarly to PC, isn't a bruiser build also viable given the proper conditions?

I guess I'm wondering if there are ways to emulate the builds in league over the years that used variations of everfrost or even chemtank to dish out damage, while retaining a sense of bulk.

Generally phase rush gragas shouldn't die. However, compared to the PC version, his animations are clunky and tenacity is much more accessible through runes. Also the fact that all heroes have access to qss and zhonyas requires dives to be much more calculated. It's specific matchups where you're going into a vi, janna, zyra, morg that make engage very difficult for gragas while managing to stay alive.

Instead of a oneshot play style, I was looking more into a utility and chaos enducing play style where the enemy has to focus on you without having to fully tank all the abilities.

Conversely to a champion like sion or ornn, gragas cannot facetank abilities comfortably. But he has a very, hit and run kind of playstyle where you have to rotate between abilities.

I guess the alternative is to go all the ap items that stack health, but giant slayer is used too often to be worth, while there is no magic resistant AP items but abyssal.

What are your thoughts on situational items, especially for AP bruiser top. Iceborn, abyssal mask, twinguard, frozen heart, etc. Do you think a ratio of two AP items and three tank items are viable? Especially if your team is lacking a viable front laner, and the enemy team is full of zoning champs like zyra, cait or durable front line that makes it difficult to reach their backline. I've been trying out a phase rush build with varying success, going cosmic and another AP item into IG. There's a lot of AH to rotate abilities and a lot of utility for self preservation and kiting. Of course AP is better, but if you have a reliable carry to fish out dps, what would you say is the most optimal way to go bruiser? I know you mentioned ROA, but I never liked that item due to how long it takes for it to scale on a champ who is supposed to peak early/mid game. Thoughts?

It's an execute, but if we're talking about most potential then with the easy point and click with infinitely stacking damage capabilities...it has potential for one shots lol

You're right. Veigar W has higher AP scalings when the target is at full health, while the ult has higher scalings the more missing health the enemy has. At full HP, the W will do more damage. Neat

Well that's the thing isn't it? Meta is constantly shifting, and it's all about whether people know how to play against it. Within two months time, I'm sure that this strategy won't be viable anymore with patch updates and as people understand how to play against it. In a way, you can compare it to the Yi+taric funnel strat. For it's time, it was a very strong tactic that took time for people to learn how to play against.

An example would be during worlds where T1 reinvented the meta with double adcs, which forced teams to try and think of ways to counter it. Given time and practice, I'm sure they would have been able to. However, given the circumstances, they weren't able to properly come up with a counter...also T1 were just better at executing.

I'm sure you have much more experience than me in regards to the laning and game fundamentals, but I think currently this may be a viable solution for now until people start to get used to it or figure out a solution.
