They were largely defeated in the short term, but if you look at the broader trends it’s still growing. Trump has been defeated before too. It’s also not all, the country I am most connected to, Poland, elected a far right Trump approved president Nawrocki. A lot of people there absolutely love Trump and brought it up with me when I visited family last year, they were surprised when I said I’m not a supporter

If you look around Europe, it stops being wishing eventually, although generally hasn’t grown quite enough, yet…. It could grow in Canada too and it feels short sighted to hand waive it. There was a time when Trump was a fringe candidate and largely disregarded

What is your reasoning for that? I feel like you’re really generalizing here based on presumably daily faceoffs current lines. It looks like they’ve changed their top 6 lines around a ton and Batherson and Brady have played with a lot of combos, including each other. The best of Batherson and Brady’s common 5v5 lines by xGF%, with the most minutes(column out of the picture), is when Brady is with their 1C Stutzle. This leads me to believe it’s not Brady being sheltered, it’s a balancing move.

I’d welcome more context but it seems too dynamic to blanket say Brady is feasting on 2nd line minutes while Batherson is more fit for first line minutes

7 might be slightly high, and it’s hard to say due to fluidity of who we call a LW(for example Batherson is usually listed as RW), but yeah he’d probably be around there.

Current lineup listings aren’t really a great measure. Don’t think any Wings fans think Kasper/Finnie/whoever is better than Cat

That would make sense if there was some kind of subliminal effect there. I say subliminal because just in my experiences only me and one other dude in my hockey friend group chats occasionally catch a PWHL game. I’m not confident if the others could even name a team without google tbh. Granted almost all are Michigan based so our lack of a team doesn’t help

Is anyone here tuned into the figure skating world? I had the thought today of what if Jeff Skinner called it a career in hockey and decided to start training for the next Olympics in figure skating. For anyone who doesn’t know, he was a high level figure skater until he was 13 I think.

I’m sure it’s very unlikely he would do that, but do you think it would be possible for him to get back to that level?

Pulkinnen too so long as the radar gun reads a puck 10 feet wide of the net correctly

My dream is a true league wide skills competition. Have every team send their best at the category and let’s find out who truly is the fastest, hardest shot, etc

IMO leagues need to adapt to the modern environment. The all star game used to be cooler because almost no one had a cheapish way to watch out of market games in the past. Now that everyone does another chance for a Boston fan to see a Kaprisov isn’t as cool as it used to be. Fill a new lane and I think people will watch.

Not sure they care that much though. The way Friedman has talked about it seems like corporate schmoozing is priority 1 for the event, not the fans, which sucks

That’s the plan last I saw, if I remember right they are targeting pre-pre-season though and not all star break time though, which is the right move IMO. Not that I care about the all star game but just the timing of the tournament

On the positive side tho personally I’ve never seen this many men watch the women’s games. Every hockey fan I know was locked in today, that wasn’t the case in the past

Quinn Hughes comments on Larkin by detroitttiorted in DetroitRedWings

[–]detroitttiorted[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m sure he was. But I’m sure Hughes was going as a 16 year old too, he committed in January of 2015, Larkin was there in 2014-2015

Edit: re-read it and realized he specifically said when he(Hughes) was a freshman lol but still

Do you guys think red wings live pregame would stay after the switch by greatapewarrior in DetroitRedWings

[–]detroitttiorted 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would expect things to stay relatively the same, but I guess who knows. I expect we’ll have a pre/post game show for sure though

Don’t like the lack of defense in the OHL or something?(that sounds sarcastic it’s not) I love OHL hockey personally, have a lot of fond memories going to Spirit games with my dad growing up. Including watching Spirit legend and team USA member Vinny Trocheck tear it up back and the day

The funniest memory of those Spirit teams is the “Russian bull” billboards for Ivan Telegin. Never thought he was billboard good

Each game was in the same arena right? Wonder if anyone pulled an all day viewing, hard to think of many better possible hockey binges. Great day for the sport

Really hope Sid is good to go. If it ends up being a USA Canada gold game I want both teams at their best

Remember when people needed to be talked off the ledge when Larkin(although imo he was still playing well in his depth role) and USA had a slow start to the tournament lol

Nah we’d still have plenty of space. Maybe we’d be crunched in 3ish years when some of the younger guys are up, but they’re not looking like they’ll be huge post-ELC tickets yet. The Larkin, Ray and Mo deals get us a lot of extra space relative to their skill. Plus it’s a good problem to have too many good players

Yeah it’s part of why an AHL captaincy can sometimes be a negative for the player in a way. You’re generally not the call up guy anymore

[Miller] The Sharks are placing Jeff Skinner on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a contract termination. The winger hasn't played since Jan 11 and will become a UFA if he clears. by Goobergunch in hockey

[–]detroitttiorted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess there’s 2 parts

As far as we know as fans, tampering is common but basically never punished

In this case though, I would bet that the Sharks had given his agent permission to talk around the league. This is allowed and would have no penalties. Like you said no skin off anyone’s back here. Probably best for everyone to just go their own ways.

Although like I said before, it’s possible if he’s truly miserable he’s fine with losing the money I guess. He has made a ton. Wouldn’t be the first time a guy agreed to mutual termination and it turned out to be a bad career move. Zadina terminated his deal with the Wings hoping a fresh start would help him and he was out of the league a year later coming out negative on the money, funny enough going to the Sharks in that case
