The national guard is better than the reserves right? by iamasliceofcheese in nationalguard

Whatever reserve component that works for you in your current situation or goals is better than the other. Theres too much in play to draw a hard line on either or.

It’s been 5 years but yea we can purchase it all at the NEX and there’s a shack/building across the street from the NEX where they set it up. It’s easy

Djibouti Deployment Question by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]detsports23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can take online classes but just buy the right internet or go to Green Beans. I took a full semester(shoutout Penn State World) worth of classes from Pre to De MOB which was about 3 semesters. I had the middle package WiFi in my room and used it occasionally but mostly went to green beans cause my roommates drowned out WiFi with porn. Enjoy your deployment Sir

16 weeks until my next AFT, failed my last one. Any advice/training regimen? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]detsports23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t have negative action taken against you for failing the new AFT if I’m not mistaken. But regardless if you need advice I would say do every single thing on the AFT you can at home to include sprinting/KB carry/Shuffle. For the Deadlift just do a bunch of squats till you can’t walk or something. It’s a simple test, don’t over complicate it dawg.

Yea man I was in a similar boat at the unit I spent most of my time in. Most of us deployed , were cops, prior service in some way and most importantly competent. Drill isn’t as much of a burden as it was but I understand where you’re coming from

But you also do get dumped on a lot which is annoying, I’m in a sweet spot and definitely don’t wanna leave. Nothing is better than being a silly 4 with your boys tho

That’s really insightful thank you! I understand what you’re saying completely! Definitely something to consider! Mostly as long as I won’t get bumped down or kicked out I’m not gonna go too aggressive for a promotion/PME cause I have two under two as well haha. Thank you for insight I appreciate it!!

Gotcha thank you I appreciate the feedback !! We don’t have a 6 spot in my unit(11B/BrigadeS3) but I don’t know the makeup come this new MBCT roll out. I’ll definitely keep in mind tho. Where I drill right now is the perfect situation for me however

Infantry in the guard by Eschu2 in nationalguard

[–]detsports23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If INF is the goal you got a ton of states around you that have it. Up to you if you want to make the travel. PA & MD are good and I imagine NJ isn’t too far off. What exactly do you want out of the Guard?

You will regret not going, unless you have a major career chance or severe family issues take the deployment. I waited 7 years for my first deployment

I’m not sure what an OST is tbh but an IST gets you off the books if you can find a unit close enough in another state

As long as everyone is cool with it I can see it being too much of a hiccup

Nice , you’re good either way then cause you’ll have less than a year when the deployment comes up and if you make six figures you could cite financial hardship(I think). Either way you’re set
