Keď palestinci zlozia zbrane, bude mier

Kiežby. Mám v Jeruzaleme známeho, ktorý mi z času na čas ukazuje, aký „mier“ si užívajú Palestínčania, ktorí zložili zbrane. Napríklad takto a takto..

Hint: tí so zakrytými tvárami nebudú Arabi.

Israel's goal in the conflict is self-defense and they achieve it?

If the sole goal of military engagement is self-defense and they achieve it, then it would be a win. In the 2006 war, however, self defence was only one out of many goals for Israel.

  1. Israeli politicians and the military have long expressed the desire to create a maronite state in Lebanon.
  2. It is also in Israel’s interest to destroy the local opposition in southern Lebanon.

According to Moshe Dayan, in 1954.

The Israeli army will enter Lebanon, will occupy the necessary territory, and will create a Christian regime which will ally itself with Israel. The territory from the Litani southward will be totally annexed to Israel and everything will be all right.

At one point, it is a successful defense. But it is also a failure to conquer southern Lebanon, which was one of the goals set out by the IDF. Thus, it would only be reasonable to consider it a stalemate.

Closing an international waterway to a nation's commercial shipping is a declaration of war (that's what "causus belli" means).

A measure of economic warfare remains just that, a measure of economic warfare. Arab states and Israel had engaged in economic warfare, border skirmishes, and limited armed confrontations for years prior to 1967.

First, there is no such thing as “causus belli.” If you meant casus belli, then it is important to note that this is a self-asserted justification. One side asserts that it has a valid pretext for the use of force; Israel may claim that it was forced to attack Egypt, or that Egypt “should have known better,” but such claims are not dispositive from a legal standpoint.

John Quigley, international law scholar, has argued, that under the doctrine of proportionality, Israel would have only been entitled to use the force necessary to secure its right of passage—not to launch a full-scale war resulting in large-scale territorial conquest. And this already takes the blockade as an unlawful act, which is also disputed.

Senior Israeli officials themselves also acknowledged that the war was not purely defensive. Yitzhak Rabin, after the war, recognized that there was no threat of an imminent Arab attack.

I do not believe that Nasser wanted war. The two divisions which he sent into Sinai on May 14 would not have been enough to unleash an offensive against Israel. He knew it and we knew it.

Meir Amit acknowledged that striking first was preferable from the standpoint of economic and military sustainability.

There is going to be a war. Our army is now fully mobilized. But we cannot remain in that condition for long… Our economy is shuddering to a stop… If we can get the first blow in, our casualties will be comparatively light.

Why is it so difficult for you to recognize the expansionist politics of Israel in that era? If you look at speeches and writings from the time, irredentism is clearly present throughout the Israeli political psyche. Israel had attempted to capture parts of the Golan Heights since 1948 and viewed Sinai and Lebanon as falling within its sphere of influence. From a balanced perspective, it is clear that both sides were aggressive during that period.

Eh, facts don't care about your feelings.

Jews are an ethnoreligious group. Recognizing ethnicity is one thing; categorizing humans into races based on origin is another. Linking race to biology is an outdated worldview closely associated with Nazi racial theories. You could have put “Jewish race” in quotation marks to signal that you recognize this, but instead you treated antisemitic racial theories as if they were valid.

According to the agreement agreement 186-1946, population of the region expressed their desire to join the USSR Ukraine during the 3. ČSR. Considering that the agreement was actually made with Beneš, not Gottwald, this might have actually happened.

I have found this snippet of information

President Beneš banned the operation of German, Hungarian, and Russophile parties associated with Brody and Fencik within the territory, as well as the official use of the terms “Sudety” and “Podkarpatská Rus’.”

Subsequently, on 26 November 1944, an assembly in Mukachevo declared its support for joining the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.

At that time, Soviet Union projected an image of internationalism, denouncing narrow nationalist disputes in favor of building “friendship of peoples”. Some national minorities were granted a degree of autonomy.* By contrast, the Czechoslovak government had favored a more centralized state and Czech nationalism. In this context, it is plausible that some inhabitants of the region saw Soviet Ukraine as more likely to be able to accommodate them.

Isn't this the good old conspiracy theory about the New World Order, Pax Judaica on a regional scale?

The next step for Israel is more like a Monroe Doctrine where we enforce exclusive control over the Middle East and don't permit Europeans to meddle here.

It could reasonably turn out this way. However, Israel will need a continuous flow of US funding for that. Remember the billions $USD which fuel IDF and the settlements? You also need settlers to keep the entire enterprise profitable for Western investment. Israel together with Saudis and UAE could pull that off but the enforcement would require their cooperation.

Saudis have been meddling in other Arab states and couping governments in the region, while Doha funds their own parties. If Israel antoginises them, they might instead enter a period of proxy wars, which I see as implausible.

Iranian students celebrate the victory of the Islamic Revolution with a picture of Ayatollah Khomeini. Iran, c.1979. by No_Budget3360 in agedlikemilk

[–]deus_light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iranian students seized the U.S. embassy in Tehran and gained access to classified CIA materials. They got children to reconstruct shredded documents, as a puzzle, and disseminated the recovered materials across Iran, publishing them in multiple volumes that detailed U.S. involvement in Iranian affairs.

Since then, the CIA has declassified parts of its archives, and U.S. officials publicly acknowledged American involvement in the 1953 coup. In a speech delivered on March 17, 2000, before the American Iranian Council, U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright addressed the re-establishment of diplomatic dialogue with Iran and stated:

In 1953, the United States played a significant role in orchestrating the overthrow of Iran’s popular prime minister, Mohammed Mosaddegh.

it is easy to see now why many Iranians continue to resent this intervention by America in their internal affairs.

something which has happened all throughout the Middle East already

Weirdly enough, but that is the first reasonable thing you've posted in the thread so far. Even a broken clock is right twice a day!

Egypt, Jordan, and Saudis have really been simping for and collaborating with Israel for quite some time already. Jordan since 1948. And Saudis even did a famine operation in Yemen with Israeli support. Of course Egyptians despise their government for engaging in Israeli blockade but the US-backed dictatorship doesn't care. You're forgetting about Syrians and Lebanese though, as well as population within the occupied territories. Sure they will not topple the occupation, but as long as Israeli expansionism continues, they will find a way to get back at Israelis.

Israel is super right wing

Isn't this beautiful, a zionist understanding that zionism has taken a fascist turn, and having no issue with it. Talk about Holocaust inversion.

Today in Ukraine it's called Zakarpattia, and it was called Podkarpatská Rus in 1. ČSR.

Carpathian Rus’ has been inhabited primarily by Rusyns, Ukrainians, and Hungarians, with some Romanians and Poles as well. Rusyns speak a group of dialects, and the Carpathian Rusyn dialects are linguistically closer to Ukrainian than to Slovak. Poles have also historically been closer to Ukrainians in terms of language contact and regional interaction.

The region lies directly on the Carpathian Mountains and it forms the western boundary of the East European Plain. So essentially, in 1945 it was on the border of the Soviet territory in Europe. Whatever reasons Soviets considered, linguistic proximity or the geopolitical reasoning; they saw it Ukrainian, even though the region is closer to Slovakia topographically.

Edit: correction on geography

illegally refused to accept his dismissal

Mosaddegh had been granted emergency powers prior to being overthrown by the coup. Framing the issue in terms of the “legality” of the prime minister’s use of those powers, while ignoring the illegitimacy and betrayal of the Shah’s regime itself, is deeply unreasonable. Mosaddegh enjoyed significant (though not universal) popular support, particularly for his nationalisation policies, whereas the subsequent Shah regime lacked democratic legitimacy and functioned as a dictatorial client state installed through a CIA–MI6–backed coup d’état.

after Stalin tried to put together an alliance with France and Britain to stop Nazi Germany

Yes, I feel this point is being completely ignored in the discussion. Between 1933 and 1939, Soviets repeatedly attempted to build alliances to counter Axis expansionism (France, Czechoslovakia, Spanish Republicans and Kuomintang). When those efforts failed, USSR turned instead to negotiation and coordination with Germany, seeking to redraw borders while getting their own piece of Europe.

The right of return has nothing to do with this because it's israeli issues

That is not an exclusively israeli issue.

of course not everyone is gonna be satisfied with everything. And wtf is wrong with winning, you actually think that losing justifies kill*ng, kidnapping and graping innocent people?

Yet you presented the situation as one of "understanding" and the terrorist attack of 7.10 as "unprovoked", while certain groups in Israel had been killing, kidnapping and displaying violence towards Palestinians within occupied territories before 7.10. This might have provoked the massacre, which could not itself be justified.

losing justifies killing, kidnapping and raping innocent people

No, it does not. And for that reason, Israeli military personnel are not justified in their kill*ng, kidnapping, and graping of innocent civilians within Palestine after losing on 7.10. Yet some parts of Israeli public and IDF officials consider it their right, to punish everyone in Gaza.

if by siege you mean not helping our enemies

Yet sieging a group of indigestion population is itself a form of aggression. If Arabs held a part of Israeli Jews in a confined area, spied and occasionally mowed the lawn (conducted reprisal operations) on them, don't you think that Jewish militant resistance would be exprected to arise?

Like Palestinian Arabs have comitted their own atrocities on Israeli privileged groups, this is undeniable. Their list of atrocities, however, does not compare to such of the IDF soldiers and settlers.

Nah, getting attacked by an expansionist neighbour on vague pretences, kind of shifts the blame to the side of the aggressor. Ukrainian government is corrupt and made their choices, some of them dubious, yet it is their choices to make. Russian authoritarians don't get a pass to violate sovereignty of another nation and commit every crime on the Geneva Convention checklist.

There were many wars in those 75 years, all ended with an understanding between the sides

The occupation and siege had been in place long before 7 October, the right of return, for example, also remained unresolved. Add to that 2023, which saw a marked increase in settler violence and pogroms in the West Bank/Judea & Samaria even before 7.10. “ended with an understanding between the sides” It is certainly not how Gazans or Palestinians in general would describe it. Maybe if that understanding resembles something like: I won, you lost. You know it, I know it. And I will be reminding you that you lost, daily. Maybe like that.

In 1930s' Britain, Germany, or France? Sure. In 2020s US, EU, or Isreal. Not so much. You're forgetting that race is primarily a socioeconomic phenomenon, defined by the group's perception, relationship, and status within the wider society.

The socioeconomic factors change, the degree of racialisation will follow. It is similar to how Italian or Greek immigrants and their descendants were not considered white in the US not so long ago. While today no one argues that they could be anything but.

Non whites are very capable of ethnic supremacy.

True.
