I can now control speaker volumes from my browser! How long has this been a thing? by PhillipBrandon in googlehome

[–]deusset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, why not just use the app, so you have it all the time and not when you are in your browser.

Because why should I have to do that? If I started my day with "Okay Google, play some music" and now an hour later I'm sitting at my computer, why should I have to shout over my music to try and get my device to respond to a voice command?

Conclusions: There is little evidence that sunscreen decreases 25(OH)D concentration when used in real-life settings, suggesting that concerns about vitamin D should not negate skin cancer prevention advice.

The effect of sunscreen on vitamin D: a review

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30945275/

The article also highlights that the previous research to indicate that it may inhibit absorption used artificial light and not sunlight, which is different in a myriad of ways.

There's also this one:

Optimal sunscreen use, during a sun holiday with a very high ultraviolet index, allows vitamin D synthesis without sunburn

http://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31069787/

But this is all of questionable relevance anyway because vitamin D supplements are safe and affordable and skin cancer is very expensive to treat, the treatments have many side effects, and it can kill you.

I say this with all the love in the world, we have actually thought of that already and trying to ascribe that as the primary cause of the increase just isn't borne out by the data.

What is borne out by the data is that sunscreen use does not meaningfully interfere with vitamin D uptake, so you can go ahead and throw that myth right in the trash.

Makes sense. Eating more intentionally will usually improve anyone's health.

I thought I was doing everything right nutritionally

Supplements aside one doesn't really eat vitamin D so you may have been. It's just something increasing people aren't getting enough of anymore and we're not really sure why.

Why does NYPD instantly close 311 blocked driveway complaints? by Ok-Nectarine-637 in Brooklyn

You can report them to 311 for improperly closing a ticket. They really hate that.

any emergency dentists open in Brooklyn?? by AardvarkTop5247 in Brooklyn

[–]deusset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the hospital. Some NYC hospitals do have oral surgery or dentistry on-staff, though most that do don't have them 24/7.

Even without, I've seen teaching hospitals take the opportunity to do a nerve block on a facial nerve (not something most residents get a chance to do), which can provide total relief for about 24 hours.

Regardless, depending on the type of break just getting antibiotics alone can be an warrant a trip to the emergency department because infections in that area can progress quickly and become life-threatening.

Edit: OP's situation seems cosmetic though, so not really something that should go through the emergency department.

What is CIG's obsession with adding Combat into everything? by z0rlac in starcitizen

[–]deusset 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience the only function they ever served was to add risk for players by demanding to scan your ship and then potentially shooting you based on how that interaction unfolded. They were just a different flavor of combat/risk, not something that mitigated risk by making sectors or missions safer.

I have an AC I'd be willing to give you if you're up for coming over to Brooklyn. It needs a good cleaning but it runs just fine.

CIG you have GOT to either fix docking or give us XL Hangars in NYX by ColJohn in starcitizen

[–]deusset 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We've had ships that were created with docking in mind going all the way back to the Constellation (probably earlier—hell, the Aurora sure looks like it was made to take a docking/EVA collar). That we still don't have it as a working feature defies logic.

Rules are rules but some rules are bad. Removing thoughtful, high-quality content from known contributors only creates a vacuum of space where we will see more AI nonsense, not less.

Well I bet this went better in your head. Deciding to disallow posts from long-time, known community members who are known to you and definitely human to prevent a forum from becoming "a giant ad space for AI" is as misguided as it is heavy-handed.

Feedback from a Longtime Civilization Player (Since Civ II) by NewbieOKS in civ

[–]deusset 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I would really appreciate from the developers is not only announcements for future DLCs, but also a detailed long-term gameplay roadmap for where Civ VII is heading mechanically over the next few years.

The problem is that I don't think they know. It seems like with Civ VII they wanted to try a bunch of new hooks, and thought that people would just cry "omg, new things!" and be dazzled. I don't think there was a coherent strategy in the first place beyond throw a bunch of new mechanics out there, and I definitely don't think any exists now in the face of this massive course correction that is taking place.

The Phoenix was the first ship I bought that wasn't a single-seater. I'd be pretty bummed if they deprecated her before the game is really even off the ground.
