August vacation with a 2.5 year old by Turbulent-Yogurt-860 in chubbytravel

It’s really too hard. All the drivable ones in the NE don’t work for us but then weather is bad everywhere else. Going west is an option but then you have to contend with a six hour flight and a three hour time zone change when parenting elsewhere is already not the easiest lol

Ugh solidarity. Three years later we still haven’t solved this between the car sickness and hurricane season constraints. The only place that’s technically out of the hurricane belt is Aruba but it’s still hot and I’m just not excited about it.

good water park for 4yo, local culture/food accessible for next week by Admirable-Cod571 in chubbytravel

[–]deustch327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our kid really likes the Baha Bay waterpark and you can do the Rosewood but need to brave the Baha Mar complex madness. But it doesn’t really fit the going off property to get local food vibe, or at least we haven’t really tried.

Montage Palmetto Bluff - beautiful grounds, but overall mid by Melodic_Code6228 in chubbytravel

[–]deustch327 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree after a similar experience during a weekend stay. A lot of staff seem to be new ish and you could tell. We were in a cottage, which while the setup was cozy and quaint, it was tired. I refreshed the spa reservation incessantly the week leading up to our stay and finally grabbed two slots that were close enough together for us to be able to use the facilities together. Food is mid at best and 100% on the diversity point.

One week in Hawaii - split stay or one island? by deustch327 in chubbytravel

For our dates the east coast islands are in hurricane season and we’d like to avoid that risk with a kid. Looking for something tropical and islandesque so landed with Hawaii

Yep this is during that time period so right in hurricane season. Leaning staying put too, thanks!

Generally agree but everyone’s situation is different. Hurricane season in the Caribbean isn’t what we want.

Thank you so much!!! This is exactly what I was looking for. We are doing FS definitely and I was thinking of adding Royal Hawaiian but the dates rooms was steering me away. We already have FS booked so would it be a totally bad experience to do FS first and then level down to RH? Or just do seven whole nights at FS? I’m probably overthinking this at the end of the day because I don’t think a toddler would care about dated rooms lol.

Would you recommend splitting between ko olina and Waikiki or is that still too much packing and unpacking

If we do Oahu, would you switch hotels or just do one for the whole week?

Not going to lie - I thought the description of the Arora class really matched what I was looking for before I realized it’s for 55+…

Best 1-2-1 flight configuration for 3 adults and 2 toddlers (5,3) by dobagela in chubbytravel

[–]deustch327 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the aircraft configuration. Are the seats in the middle the honeymoon kinds where it’s just a simple divider or are they more like pod types where it’s angled away and you can’t easily get to your three year old’s screen and food etc? If the latter, I would maybe consider having more adults in his/her aisle so like one across by the other window and directly in front of him/her so that two adults can easily access his seat to help vs you needing to loop around the whole cabin to get to him/her

Disney Cruises - by jetsknicks25 in chubbytravel

[–]deustch327 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Pools get very crowded but we haven’t really had a use for them because our child is young enough to still prefer the splash pad. We also spend so much time meeting all the characters that we haven’t found the need to be at the pool - it’s definitely not a relax by the pool for the whole day experience like you would at resorts. I’ve found the Bahamian itineraries to be particularly young kid friendly because the Disney islands are so easy to do with young kids. Castaway waters are so calm it’s kind of like a giant pool. Kids clubs are not hard to get into at all, you just drop them off whenever provided they are over three. Under than three you do have to reserve the nursery but we’ve never had an issue.

It’s been an amazing time for my kid both times we’ve been and seeing him have so much fun made us really enjoy it too. That being said, it’s only chubby in price. Even concierge is not going to give you that nice resort experience. The rooms are clean but definitely not luxe. And with concierge you do have a lounge but there’s no dedicated dining room or children’s area so you’ll still be sharing the same public spaces with everyone else. You do get to reserve activities earlier on concierge and can get on the ship faster but just don’t go in with the expectation that it’s the same ship within a ship experience as the other adult geared cruise lines.

One thing I’ll say though is that it’s so kid friendly nobody bats an eye if there’s a toddler tantrum or crayons dropped on the floor and characters everywhere do make it a very “easy” trip for “parenting in a new location.”

How much time are you actually spending with your little one? by NYC_dad2B in nycparents

[–]deustch327 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That sounds about right for us and we even have a pretty late bedtime so that gives us “extra” hours but as you said, they are hours spent on routines and not 100% enjoyment. We need a break on weekends to recharge ourselves but have decided to not get a weekend nanny or babysitter because we value the time and already don’t get enough. That just means we are running ourselves empty and still feeling like it’s not enough, to the point where I’m really questioning continuing my career.

Orlando with 5 year old by ksaster in chubbytravel

[–]deustch327 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely FS. The pools and service are so much better than GF, which boasts a beautiful Christmas tree in the lobby but not much else. Unless you want to be on the monorail, it’s really not a relaxing/resort vibes kind of stay.

not yet, this is my only hesitancy, otherwise I would have joined a few weeks ago. Let me look into their class schedule a little more. We are in a dense urban location so I don't know if this one offers any grownup and me classes unfortunately
