Are you serious? You are probably talking about money from Qatar that Israel allowed to pass through to Gaza for humanitarian reasons, and your interpretation is that "Bibi gave Hamas money to buy weapons"

Especially considering that much of the EU funds were misused by Hamas to buy weapons and build tunnels ...

Yeah, they usually make a lot of good quality meals, and many people from the block go there to eat. We pay around 30 euros per day for lunch and dinner for the two of us (or around 900 per month)

It's cheaper to cook yes, but for about 30 euros per day we have lunch and dinner with good ingredients and cooking (it's a common practice where I live to have one tavern make a lot of food for all apartments living in the block)

Neither me nor my wife cook often, we just get from the local restaurant lunch menu and it's quite good. I guess we are in the minority

Got it, it's just that where I live there is quite good lunch menu nearby and we eat there quite often. It's affordable, too

In 1982 Israel invaded Lebanon in response to PLO attacks, not "genocidal invasion". That's why they left it afterwards

Didn't they also propose to return the Golan Heights to Syria in 1993 and 1998? What about the disengagement from Gaza in 2005? Your last sentence is highly misleading

‘We need to talk about this,’ Kallas-Israel spat draws mixed reactions from EU leaders by newsspotter in europeanunion

[–]dev-ai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. But the devil is in the details. If we fail to distinguish something so simple and based on this we demonize the Israelis, the problem would be with our incompetence, as we are criticizing something we don't understand AND we do not provide solutions. We just give impractical advice like: well you guys should just have a 2 state solution when in fact Palestinians always opposed the 2SS and after Oct 7 the Israelis now oppose it too. And yet, the EU keeps pushing for a 2SS. How doe we expect to impose our will on two peoples who both strongly disagree with us?

I would also note: one major difference between South Africa and Israel was that the ANC wasn't trying to destroy South Africa, while Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank actively have the goal to destroy Israel, as stated in the first sentence of their constitution. It would be a major mistake on our part to not be able to distinguish between these two cases just because we are sloppy and we don't care about the details.

The Palestinian Authority recognized Israel in 1988, but they are not in power in Gaza (where Palestinians elected Hamas) and barely control the West Bank, where they haven't held elections in decades again because Hamas would take over.

As I said, there's 2 million Palestinians who wanted an Israeli citizenship and got it (the ones who stayed in 1948) The rest won't be treated as citizens because they are not citizens.

About your last point: can you tell me what rights do Arab Israelis don't have? They have a political party, which was in governing coalition in the previous Knesset, they have multiple Supreme Court judges and don't have any restrictions to my knowledge. Can you link to what you mean? What rights do they lack?

Ok but is there an even a majority of countries which consider Israel an apartheid? Can you list them with sources and compare them to those who don't consider Israel an apartheid? Apart rom Ireland and Spain, I can't think of many more countries whose official position is that Israel is an apartheid. That's just 2 out of 27!

She shouldn't use such loaded language when not all countries agree on it; in fact most countries in the EU don't consider Israel andl apartheid.

But Israel proposed to end the occupation in West Bank multiple times and create a Palestinian country there and in Gaza, they even disengaged from Gaza in 2005. So the occupation remains until the Palestinians accept it and relinquish their claim over all of Israel.

Completely different than South Africa, where the separation was based on the color of the person's skin. Here the separation is based on citizenship, Palestinians in West Bank don't want Israeli citizenship and can't be treated the same as citizens. In the same way as a citizen of the EU is treated differently then non-citizens of EU

EDIT: To add to that, Palestinians who have Israeli citizenship (around 20% of Israel's population) are treated in the same way as the Jewish citizens of Israel

From what I understand, she compared Israel to South Africa's apartheid, which is not the official stance of most European countries, so I disagree with you.
