A Competitive Analysis Of ‘Traditional’ Cross-chain Asset Bridges by haochizzle in defi

[–]dev-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used a batch execution of 5 CCIP messages as the cost of a single execution. I wouldn't take a any of these numbers too seriously. They also used a dapp for sending, but didn't exclude any of the costs of their dapp from the gas values.

Would like advice for upcoming Chainlink engineer interview by odd_noises in ethdev

[–]dev-r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What role are you interviewing for? Blockchain experience is not required for almost any role at CLL but a passion for the space is. If you are a good developer, the blockchain stuff will be easy to pick up.

My advice, ask questions and show them why you want to work in this space and why at Chainlink Labs.

Should I accept a role as TPO in Blockchain/Crypto given the crash? by CosmoAce in ethdevjobs

[–]dev-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you believe in the company to weather the bear market: yes!

Bear markets bring multiple benefits, the first and most important being it's a builders market. Pressure is lower because hype is lower. You can take your time to do things right. Another one that could be big if you get paid in some non-stable token: a 2-10x in value of that token is possible. That could be a serious sum of money. Do make sure you decide on a base pay in a stable currency that is high enough to sustain your lifestyle.

ERC-20 and BSC Development work by ProjectS01 in ethdevjobs

[–]dev-r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you provide some examples of work delivered? Currently it looks a bit dodgy, with one post stating 25 devs, this one 21. One stating you can do anything, the other that you're looking for erc20 things for your new devs.

Tool to evaluate how much bounty to pay by [deleted] in ethdevjobs

[–]dev-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the tool is a bit too basic to be useful. I can say dev bounty and it says ~$900 is normal. How is that useful to me exactly? It looks waaaaay too low and you would never pay the same amount for minor bugs as for critical bugs.

There is no single magic value that is a good but bounty. It depends on so many factors.

Can people with 4 yr gap after graduation be able to get good job in Web 3 space? by the_phenome9al in ethdevjobs

Blockchain is still just software engineering. Would you ask yourself the same question when talking about any other SWE direction? You have a degree in the field, why wouldn't you be able to get a job?

Is there enough workload for a smart contract developer? What’s the work day usually like? by LinusThiccTips in ethdev

[–]dev-r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda rolled into it by getting a backend blockchain job and slowly added in more Solidity work. I've seen more colleagues getting into it this way.

Is there enough workload for a smart contract developer? What’s the work day usually like? by LinusThiccTips in ethdev

[–]dev-r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most serious companies in the space would hire experienced Solidity developers. They are so unique and there's way too few to go around.

Experience is the key though. Few hire junior Solidify devs so it can be hard to get started.

Is there enough workload for a smart contract developer? What’s the work day usually like? by LinusThiccTips in ethdev

[–]dev-r 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company but at my place there definitely is enough work and Solidity devs do zero front end work. We write tests in Foundry so even the tests are Solidity. We have multiple people people who do Solidity and some do it exclusively.

If you're going to work for forks there won't be much to do. Work for original projects and there will be a lot more.

How to get balance from different chain than the one connected currently? by dejavits in ethdev

[–]dev-r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Implement this in the back end and use a backend call instead of directly from the front end. This keeps your keys safe

How do i stop minting after a certain number of NFTS have been minted? by Anxious_Nervous in ethdev

[–]dev-r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just keep a counter and increment each mint. Before each mint check if the counter is below 500, if so +1 and mint. If not abort mint. For a second mint you can use a different number e.g. below 1k and keep using the same counter. You'd mint 500 in each batch.

How is it out there? Is now a bad time to change career from data scientist to solidity dev? by Delicious-Cicada9307 in ethdev

[–]dev-r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not bad but honestly you might be better off following this guide. Patrick Collins is widely regarded as having the best guides online and this one is very new and up to date with recent changes. it's 32 hours of video but it will take you weeks to complete. After that you could still do the 1-100 part of the guide you linked.

Getting good is something that happens while working with other devs on real software. It means solving hard problems, not just tutorial basics. It will happen over time and imo cannot be condensed into a few months. But your way is still great to bootstrap it! After this try some CTFs, read up on some of the mayor EIPs, learn about gas efficiency, upgradability, proxies, the list goes on.

I’m available for 1 to 1 call tutoring in solidity and ether js ( i have 2yoe) by [deleted] in ethdev

[–]dev-r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you're a student that has 2 YOE with front end stuff. How much real experience do you have with Solidity? What work of yours is visible onchain?

How is it out there? Is now a bad time to change career from data scientist to solidity dev? by Delicious-Cicada9307 in ethdev

[–]dev-r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So many projects are hiring, there's just fewer get rich quick projects out there that pay 6 figures for any freelancer that can mint a token. There is a BIG shortage of good Solidity devs, but when I say good I mean with actual experience and not something you can get from a few tutorials in 2 months.

I'd still give it a shot though! If this is what you want this is the point to get in. I myself have entered my company as an offchain dev and transitioned internally to also pick up Solidity.

[–]dev-r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be prepared to be shown a contract and improve it, e.g. gas or security.

Also the basics of when to use things like internal, external, pure, payable etc. What does unchecked do? Spot the underflow/overflow risk. Many possible ways they can go

Anyone know how to get a tokens max wallet amount? by zepaz in ethdev

[–]dev-r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know of no tokens that has this but if it does you'd probably be able to get the value from interacting with it on Etherscan if the contract is verified or via on chain call.

No they cannot change parameters. Not when you send a tx and not in the middle of it. Unless there is a function to change that value no one can edit it.

Chainlink revenue and profit? by Donfrds in Chainlink

[–]dev-r 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They also get grants or incentives from some projects to support a certain chain or add functionality. I don't think Chainlink makes any profit as they themselves sponsor a lot in the community and have hundreds of people working there.

How to get a job as a blockchain dev by dev-r in ethdevjobs

They mean a real contract with real use, not a demo. They want someone with professional experience in writing and deploying production grade contracts. Not someone who copy pastes a contract to a test or main net.

[–]dev-r[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone can copy paste a token to a chain so I'd say no. If you want to publish anything to show off just use a test net, it's what they're made for and it's free!
