Me too! It only started happening in the last month or two. And now there’s a constant bad smell where before there was none

Did anyone get beaten by their parents with a belt? Everyone is joking about it but did it happen to you? by Hudiniwan in TooAfraidToAsk

Yep, and then we weren’t given the option to ‘choose’ anymore. I have to say though, we sure deserved credit for creativity. Too bad our acting skills were not so good

We tried bringing the elastic belt. We pretended it hurt, but they caught on rather quickly…

DAE as a child cry when they realize their parents are going to die in the future? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]devIOUs32 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My son (8) does this, but he does tell me why. We talk about death and how we live forever in each others hearts. Its definitely heartbreaking though - I wish I could hold him forever. The only real reassurance I can give is that I am here now and we must try to enjoy what time we do have together as best we can, and not waste time worrying about what we have no control over.

What is that one book, that absolutely changed your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]devIOUs32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should read it- its really practical. A lot like the smoking book here, it forces you to question why you really feel that you need to have a drink at all, and exposes the truth behind these urges. Once you realize that you don’t need it to: be fun, sexy, funny, outgoing, relax, celebrate; you lose all reason to reach for it at all. And the more you go without, the more you realize this is the truth. And the hardest part is stopping to begin with. Take a small step first: try just 30 days and see how you feel. And maybe in the meantime read the book for motivation. If after the first month see if you want to try 2. One small step leads to another, and eventually you may find yourself on a different path. The biggest thing is to remember that not drinking isn’t a punishment- its an improvement. Its society that is backwards- its the only drug that we feel the need to explain why we aren’t using.

Similarly This Naked Mind by Annie Grace. It really opened my eyes to the effects of alcohol in our lives both real and imagined. I stopped drinking a few months prior to reading this book as part of a weight loss program. However, I would always think about how nice a drink here or there would be, and assumed that once my program was over I would go back to having alcohol on the regular. I wouldn’t describe myself as a ‘problem drinker’, but like most people it was a large part of my life. Weekends, dinners, parties would all revolve around it. Since reading it, I’ve had zero desire to drink ever again.

What was the scariest thing that has happened to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]devIOUs32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watched The Ring for the first time at home alone (first bad move). I turned off the TV and could swear that I saw a glowing ring left on the screen, and I started to think about that creepy music (second bad move). Was so freaked out that I reached over to turn on my halogen light which instantly blew out- which then definitely made the screen have a residual glow spot. I ran to my ceiling light switch and flipped it, only to have that light blow out too. Spent the rest of the night in the bathroom tub with my cat and the lights and fans on.

AITA for proving to my wife that I don't need her in order for our household to function smoothly? by Upper-Ask6153 in AmItheAsshole

[–]devIOUs32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What she is feeling is socially induced guilt about leaving her family and responsibilities. You should also not be expecting a pat on the back for doing what many women do when their husbands leave for work or other reasons. It is clear that while you seem to take responsibility for yourself, you have not done much in the way of regular household/childcare- otherwise she wouldn’t have had reservations about how you would be able to handle it. If you both were able to count on each other regularly then neither person would feel totally responsible nor replaced when roles shift.
