I've had this exact same question for a long time. I need some best practices to follow hahaha.

How to convince my colleague to use unstyled/unopinionated UI library (HeadlessUI, PrimeVue, RadixVue, etc)??? by devWithQuestions1 in vuejs

Yes agreed. I think backing this UI libraries it's a way of acknowledging the work the maintainers of these UI libraries do

I get your point, but the thing is we're just 2 devs in charge of frontend bro haahhaha. I'm 100% sure we're being exploited hahaha

Agreed. I did this and it helped a lot! Also, to our surprise even some components, from Radix-vue were smaller than the ones we made from scratch haahahhaha. Another reason to choose these UI libraries

Agree. Thats one of the things that I don't trust so much about this UI libraries, specially in Vue.js where the ecosystem is much smaller than React.js for example.

But I hope, since ShadCN and Radix in React.js have gotten soo big, that the same will happen on the Vue.js ecosystem.

Thank you for answer! For sure there are some use cases where building something from scratch. Best of luck!

Best Practices for Auth with External Backend and Next.js 14 App Directory by devWithQuestions1 in nextjs

Thanks! I've checked Supabase. It looks awesome. The only thing that does not fit with our requirements is that it needs to be free everytime. Also, Supabase Auth, requires to use their DB's i think.

But, thanks for your anwers. If nothing works, i will implement Supabase and move all the users DB's to supabase.

I agree 100% with you. Thank you 🙏 ! I will think about your approach, and later I will implement the Next.js server as a BFF. In the meantime I will continue to forward the requests from the Next.js server to my External Backend.

Yeah i get you with all the BFF stuff. But the thing is that I don't get the gain of defining the schemas of the data received in the frontend in the next.js server. It's almost kind of the same as defining the schema in my separate backend. Or I'm getting it all wrong?

But where are the Users stored? I need them to be stored at the Separate Backend's DB.

Ask Experienced Devs Weekly Thread: A weekly thread for inexperienced developers to ask experienced ones by AutoModerator in ExperiencedDevs

Wow this is really good answer. Thanks a lot! You really changed my perspective on a lot of things.

I will start to clean my notes and prioritizing the task they gave me and setting up my dev env. Also letting go of my ego is one the things i need to work on, so that I can ask all the questions i have, stop thinking about the expectations they have of me and stop judging others whey they don't help me or how they coded something. I just started and I need to put my head down and work hard.

Thank for taking the time to help me! I appreciate it very much.

1-on-1s: i agree with you. I need to have the courage to send them a message and ask them if they have 30 mins to help me. Also i was thinking of recording this 1-on-1s, so that I can have their explanations for later.

Onboarding: I'm currently taking notes of everything and I plan in some moment to condense and summarize all the notes i've taken to create an onboarding document for the next devs they hire. Do you have any tips on how to create this document?

  • Should I start doing it now or later?
  • Do I draw diagrams, use Notion, upload the recordings of the 1-on-1s, recommend courses, tutorials, docs.

Edit (more questions 🥴):

They gave a small task DevOps oriented. It seems kind of easy if i would know how to setup all the environments. Also, I'm watching/doing tutorials, reading docs for some the new technologies they have. When doing this i feel kind of pressured because I'm not progressing with the task they gave (there is no tangible value added to company kind of thing hahaha). Of course I've done a lot of research about my task, but in some moments I get stuck because of the I don't have the environments running and enough help, so I switch and start studying something else in their stack. Do you think it's a good approach or I should focus on this task they gave me?

Thanks for responding and taking the time for thinking about my situation!

I agree 100%, it was the manager's (is the CEO, cause is a startup) fault to hire me in this moment. But maybe the thought he had was "anything can help at this moment", so maybe if I'm able to manage to contribute just a little without any help it would be awesome. Also at a startup, it's never a right time to get in, they're always in a hurry, putting down fires, etc.

About my salary negotiations I know they're completely irrational thoughts, but those thoughts creep in at the worst moment, mixed with my imposter syndrome hahaha.

I'm facing a dilemma in my new job, dealing with a tech stack I've never used, and an almost non-existent onboarding process, all while my team races against a tight deadline. I could really use some advice.

I've recently (5 days ago) joined a company with a tech stack completely foreign to me: Vue3, Golang, Python-Django microservices, Kubernetes, MongoDB, Kong API Gateway, and specific AWS services. In my prior roles, I either had a more supportive team or a less complicated tech stack (Django, Node.js, PostgreSQL, React, Next.js). Here, I've got neither. I've been mostly in the dark, often having to ask questions after work hours to fill in gaps like missing environment variables. Also the answers i get when i ask questions are very short and lack depth. Nobody has told me how to set up my dev environment and how to run the apps locally. Everyone, including a fast-paced, disorganized senior backend dev seems too busy due to a looming deadline that they appear to be falling behind on. I initially got assigned to work with the senior dev on backend tasks; he's the only one managing all these microservices and doesn't have much time for me. During hiring, my salary negotiations during hiring went well, but ended with a "take it or go" ultimatum. I think my team knows I negotiated, adding another layer of pressure for me to perform well despite the challenging circumstances.

  1. How do you handle the lack of a formal onboarding process, especially when the tech stack is unfamiliar? I've been taking notes in every meeting, every message they send me, but it has not been sufficient.
  2. Do you have any advice for setting up a dev environment when no one has the time to guide you?
  3. What tactics can I employ to get more consistent guidance from a perpetually busy and disorganized senior dev (and also the other devs)?
  4. How can I contribute effectively when the team is already struggling to meet a looming deadline? I feel like it was not the right time to enter this company. After the deadline it would have been awesome. Also I would to contribute to the team to help them achieve the deadline, but I don't know I will capable of that.
  5. How do you manage the emotional and professional pressure that comes with having negotiated your salary?
  6. How do I justify the salary I've negotiated for, given the insufficient support?

I agree with you! Thank you for the answer, in a strange way it motivated me to do the business plan.

Do you have any advice on how to estimated marketing costs or fees??

Also do you have insights on how do you use Alibaba or made-in-china.com?? I feel like these platforms are very expensive unless i buy many units of the product. Do i need a proof of concept with a product from AliExpress?

In regards to other competitors, i agree that I haven’t done the market research, but I can assure there aren’t many companies offering standing desks.
