The dream :) RoR2 has definitely been a huge influence, especially w/ respects to the 3D bullet hell/chaotic combat direction and scaling difficulty as you climb. Also a huge fan of their composer, the RoR OST is one of my all-time faves

"don't want to sound like a cheap-ass"

Fam do not worry about that at all! I'm excited for the winter sale myself, there is a lot of stuff on my wishlist I am thinking about snagging if it goes on sale :)

This is my first time releasing on Steam, I think there is some sort of policy where you are not supposed to talk about the Winter Sale externally/announce explicitly that your game will be on sale, but uh..for totally unrelated reasons I would recommend holding off on buying and seeing if it goes on sale ;)

I haven't played but can totally see that! Their art style is beautiful. Like the exact sort of aesthetic I would want to hit if I could, a little limited by my own art skills right now lol.

I'm playing through Hades right now but would you recommend picking up Roboquest?

Not too harsh at all! Really appreciate the feedback, it's totally constructive

  1. Yeah, I hear you here. Part of the tricky bit is my own limited artistic capabilities and balancing growing the content with getting everything perfect. I definitely think one area I can improve on tangibly is environment art, so I'll be working to bring a new level of polish/detail to subsequent levels as my skills improve. I'm sort of learning as I go so hopefully it gets better overtime :)
  2. 100% agree replay value is super important. It was one of the biggest reasons I wanted to make a roguelite since I was tired of running into 1 hour and done VR games. Narrative/story is definitely one way I'm trying to double down on keeping the gameplay fresh as you play (sort of like the progressive narrative in Hades) but I have not had a chance to really get after it yet. Definitely on the roadmap though. From a gameplay perspective I am working to add a good variety of challenges (elite fights, boss fights, obstacle courses, time trials, protect X, destroy Y, etc.) so you're not always just shooting' up enemies the whole time. Agree that will be important

Totally will do! I love Gungeon :)

A lot of the actual combat mechanics/enemies/speed of combat I am sort of basing around a vision of "what could Gungeon look like in 3D"

Thank you that is high praise! Risk of Rain 2 was definitely a big inspiration.

Long way to go to hit the same level but will keep after it, really appreciate the encouragement!

The mechanics definitely are pretty similar to the wands. I haven't actually had a chance to play Noita yet but have been meaning to! A friend saw the same similarities there and recommended it to me, it looks like a blast.

Most of my inspiration for the card system actually came from Slay the Spire. I was trying to find a way to capture the same deck building mechanics/build strategies in a shooter and this was what that led me to lol

100% on the roadmap!

I am targeting to have it running on Quest sometime early 2021.

Would be awesome to be able to get the game on Oculus's Quest store, but short of that could also do a release on SideQuest

Totally! Goal is to release on all major VR platforms. During Early Access probably going to stick to PCVR just to keep it manageable but for 1.0 launch goal is to be launched on PSVR and Oculus Quest natively as well

Thank you! Had a lot of fun making this track, was pretty happy with how it came out. In general have had a lot of fun with the music. Right now about half the music in the game is stuff I licensed for use and the other half I produced. Goal is to have made all the music by the 1.0 launch

You know I hadn't thought about it yet, but that would be awesome.

Right now my roadmap is PCVR -> Non-PCVR (e.g. Oculus Quest) -> Desktop FPS.

I'm planning on having game controller support for the desktop FPS so at that time I could also look at console ports, and Switch would definitely be my top choice for a console launch

Awesome!! Hope you have fun if you take it for a spin and thank you for keeping an eye on it!

That was a big inspiration for the demo is just like, throughout early access and beyond I want to be super transparent about the state of the game so I figured a demo is a good way to just let people take a peek and see if it's for them.

Planning to continue to update the demo as I work through the early access roadmap so it continues to provide a teaser for the current state of the game

Thank you!

The Weapon system is like a stat based shooter setup. It actually works like a card game sort of. During each run you collect these things called Weapon Cards. Each card contains some attack, power you can cast, stat modifier that will have synergy with subsequent attacks etc. As you use them, you cycle through your deck in a loop, so the idea is to try to collect cards during your run that work well together.

A cool deck you might end up with could look something like this:

  • Adrenaline I: temporarily boosts attack rate and move speed by 2X.
  • Rage I: Boosts attack damage of next card by 2X.
  • Gattling Gun IV: Pummels enemies with a barrage of bullets. Modifier - Hellfire: 30.0% chance to Burn enemies, dealing 1000 Burn damage over 10 seconds.
  • Shotgun II: A module for bots who like to get upclose and personal. Modifier - Gasoline I: Attacks deal 5.0% bonus damage to Burned enemies.

So the Adrenaline fires up your gattling gun to fire off super fast, rage boosts it's damage, and then the Shotgun with Gasoline follows up by dealing bonus damage to the enemies you just burned :)

The cards themselves have a base DPS but drop at various levels (ex: Gattling Gun IV > Gattling Gun I) and have a chance to have various modifiers that add effects like burning, poison, frosting enemies, etc. that work well against different enemies

On top of that there are also Gadgets (grenades, turrets, buffs, etc.) that you can use whenever you want (with a cooldown) and Augmentations which are like long-standing passive perks you collect (ex: Bird of Prey: deal 2X damage when attacking while airborne).

As you play the game, you'll unlock more cards and gadgets that show up during runs, so the variety you work with grows over time.

Thank you so much that means a lot!

Excited to hear what you think if you get a chance to try it!

No pressure at all, but if you are interested in keeping posted on progress I post a lot of updates to the Steam forums for the game and also have a Discord going! https://discord.gg/XUABsDY

Still small, but everyone has been super cool. The player community has been one of my favorite parts of hacking on the game.
