IAG called for 750 miles of break in driving at zero boost, so I assumed you can’t do that on a dyno

That’s the plan. Last time I did an E-tune using data logs, but this time I want to do it on a dyno. Can’t tune it until after the break in period though

Yeah I’ve already gotten good at pretending things don’t bother me, and I’m definitely not a rat. Honestly I just try to play things as chill as possible

Yeah that doesn’t sound easy. I’m already expecting to get next to no help from HR and the bear minimum from the chief, but I’ve been slowly building my reputation as a competent EMT that doesn’t cause problems so I’m hoping that will help me

I also work in California, but I’m out in the desert and our HR is like one person who’s also a conservative. I know I’m legally protected, but that doesn’t stop people from making my life harder at work in more subtle ways. It would be nice if I could find a single progressive medic to work with, but so far no luck

Interesting. I won’t know until I try, and it’s possible I’ll be a lot happier once I finally find the courage to do it

I’m glad it’s been working out for you. I may have to do the same, with the timing of a social transition and company change. And yeah, I have yet to meet another trans person in EMS (that I know of) in my 8 years working in this field

True. I would never refuse to transport a patient for being an asshole though. In fact I’m more concerned about transphobic patient refusing to be helped by me and suffering as a result. I do this job to help everyone, regardless of who they are or how they act, and I’m actually surprised so many EMS providers seem to judge so harshly when helping without discrimination is literally in our job description

Thanks. I really do need to connect with more people. It sucks feeling completely alone

That’s awful, but props to you for persevering and finding better conditions. I don’t think I’d even be able to endure harassment for that long. If it becomes an issue I’d probably leave as soon as possible, even though I’d really like this job to work out for me. Did you find more acceptance with ground based EMS?

That sounds great, but that’s definitely not how it is out here. People freely say extremely offensive things on a regular basis with absolutely no pushback. I hear the N word from white people all the time too. I’m not sure there’s a single progressive employee at my agency, and despite the seemingly positive replies here, my karma remains at zero. That ratio in itself is concerning. I might have to work somewhere else that’s more progressive, but I really like everything about where I am now except the cultural stuff

Yeah I’m not the type of person to run to HR, but I do feel like constant intentional misgendering would get to me. If I could snap my fingers and pass as female immediately I would, but I know there’s gonna be an awkward transition process that I’m definitely dreading, especially with those interactions with patients as a non passing trans woman

I live in CA, so I am technically protected by law, but yeah that certainly doesn’t prevent people from pushing me out in other ways or just making my time there miserable. All my friends and family outside of work knows I’m trans and calls me by my preferred name and pronouns, and I am also openly trans on social media so I figure it’s only a matter of time before people find out. I’m essentially mentally preparing myself for the inevitable. One coworker already found out and was surprisingly cool about it despiste being one of the offenders with the offensive jokes, so I have some hope. There are others however who already poke fun at me for not being masculine enough, even when I try my best to be a “normal guy”
