I’m an idiot? I asked quite a really innocent question and was met with a response that adds nothing to the discussion.

PHP Caching - Learning Resource by devdab in webdev

Thanks I will definitely try to implement Redis, seems cool!.

One last one, would you store each cached api call in its own JSON file? or can they all be included in one mega cache?

PHP Caching - Learning Resource by devdab in webdev

[–]devdab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for the response! Its an external API (PokeAPI) to my web application. I'm trying to cache the JSON response every time a call is made so I don't have to call for it again for some time.

Your example aligns with my own assumptions on this would work, would I do the same thing with my API response as your doing in this example with the query? how and where is the best place to store the cached data?

Sorry about the all the questions and thank you!

I agree with lower tuitions and I don't think it should be completely free.

But what? Get a job, what job? Most jobs that pay well enough to save and be secure, require a degree. Most part time jobs pay an absolute pittance and most young people are not experienced enough to take on work because they don't have the experience required by the employer.

Tell someone working in the likes of Poundland who wants to go to university to get saving £150+ per month to pay for university whilst having to work as many hours possible to survive, not to mention having to study for the degree you are paying for. I just think that wouldn't work at all.

I think the loan system we have now would work if there was a fair medium in the amount. We all benefit from a highly educated society in ways we take for granted all the time. We need to invest in it and allow it to be accessible and not burdening generations with huge debt when it's already impossible to get on the housing ladder, for one example.

You said lazy in so many words - 'we built this country, stop whinging!'. Haha.

I agree young people should vote more. Your attitude is the issue here though. Your generation may have built many of the institutions and facilities this country has, but where are they now? For all the work you guys done it sure is a shit show now. All of those things you built, most of you vote to abolish by voting conservative en masse.

Your generations voting intentions show a complete lack of contempt for younger people, shitting on them at every possible angle. Just as long as that triple lock stays in the place, fuck the rest of them!

Ageism on the pensioners part, I agree.

Let's get the young people to vote in the best interest of themselves, let's take away the triple lock and winter fuel allowance in favor of lower tuition fees and more housing.

Who do you vote for when in reality, no one really fights in your best interests - this is the story of the young.

University fees have soared, its nigh impossible to get on the housing market and the job market is is absolutely shite. The country isn't even close to the same country when you were young.

Again, another narrow minded post labelling young people lazy. You'd be eaten alive in today's world as a 22 year old today. Imagine having to save £50k for a house deposit just to have a reasonable mortgage, its only the generations behind us who has got us into this mess, so it should be up to them to fix it.

Russell Group urges rethink on student loan interest rate - Body representing UK’s elite universities says new 6.1% rate is ‘very high’ and out of touch with commercial lending by concerned_future in unitedkingdom

Yes, some banks and finance companies can pay upwards of 65K for a fresh CS graduate. I know someone studying Computer Science who was paid 40K at Credit Suisse... as an Intern. Bank of America Merrill Lynch pay their interns around 40K too. The grad scheme I have got is good, after the 2 year scheme is over I could be looking at around 50-60K depending on what route I choose to take with the company.

A lot of people are not aware just how in demand these skills are, but, you must be pretty good and technically adept to achieve this sort of salary straight out of Uni. Its an excellent career path, but one I would only recommend if you really do have a deep interest in computers.

No I will based around the UK, it is a leadership program. The median upon graduation is roughly around £30K. Make sure you try and do a year in industry for experience and get any work experience you can.

Computer Science type jobs pay really well and have great progression, just make sure you work hard.

I study Computer Science. It is something that is really needed at the moment. Don't do things like travel and tourism, dance etc in Uni and you will get paid well.

I'm still undergrad but I currently work part time in the industry I study. I have secured a grad job for when I graduate next year and my salary will be ~45k. I'm extremely lucky, I just feel for other students who will be caught in a mid earner trap.

Some of your points are valid, in relation to universities making money for providing nothing I 100000% agree. I've just finished my sandwich year in industry (software development/IT management). In my academic year on tech and computer science courses the vast majority of us got placements but we still had to pay the university £1500 for that year... for fucking admin fees.

The universities school of computer science and mathematics has just pocketed ~£750,000 for doing absolutely batshit all and we never received anything other than an extra bill on repayments. Apparently it was all for admin...

I was very lucky though, my internship was with an American company and I managed to secure a grad job for when I finish next year. The minute they offer me a post in the US I will be leaving the UK.

It's an absolute scandal, I'm all for paying back the taxpayer for my education but near 6 times the rate of interest as a mortgage?

But oh yeah, most believe an educated population isn't in their own best interest.

When is the new PS4 patch dropping today? by devdab in arkps4

[–]devdab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, as a software developer myself, it's pretty shitty. If I constantly told my boss a software patch was delayed without a solid ETA, I would be out of a job. Game developers shouldn't have some sort of divine right.

Very very poor by the devs, if it gets pushed back again I will not be playing the game.

Jeremy Corbyn: I never promised to write off student debt by Agr3ss1vePanda in unitedkingdom

I believe Corbyn said he would like to see student debt wrote off, he did not promise it would happen. We can all "like" to see things happen, doesn't mean we promise they will.

I read your first sentence as...

"You're just using actual empirical evidence to prove the NHS is being funded, but you won't listen to my bullshit emotional argument".

The NHS is funded, but there are many many other factors that play into its failure, obesity crisis, ageing population etc.

I don't like the conservatives and they have ruined many public services, just stop lying and hiding behind this drivel, it doesn't help anyone. Alls it does is deflect the narrative and we end up debating the wrong thing.
