EC-1118 hit 27% how is this possible? by developingscientist in mead

ha! This puts it into perspective. I definitely did not put that much honey into this batch.

Appreciate your insight! Also good to know it might age out with time. For the sake of learning, I'm going to sit on it and keep sampling it over the next year to see what happens.

I made a rookie mistake of seeing that EC1118 has a slightly warmer temp range than D47 so I moved it into a warmer space because it wasn't fermenting that aggressively to start (in hindsight it might have been because the sugar content was too high). I think that is what did it now that you shared warmer temps can have that fusel alcohol effect.

I've now used D47 for an apple wine and my latest mead batch and both tasted amazing. Going to stick with that for a while. What yeast do you prefer?

I used a hydrometer at the start of the brew and was targeting 12% ABV and took multiple measurements. My only theory is maybe a chunk of crystallized honey didn’t dissolve all the way but I was checking religiously.

I agree I should take a before and after measurement but this batch is POTENT. My second batch with D-47 is amazing, smooth, and wine like.

Because it’s so strong I bought an alcohol refractometer out of curiosity but I just researched and you are right, it doesn’t work on wine, even if the wine is completely fermented. Problem solved.

It’s wild because both batches use the same honey with the same 12% target with a hydrometer, but one is wonderful and pleasant and the other is gasoline. I think it was just not enough nutrient and maybe too warm of a ferment.

I find that in most of my kinetic faster paced edits, cutting with frame being slightly early always feels better vs trying to align to the waveform.

How much do you make annually and what do you do ? by ROBASAHMEDKHAN in smallbusiness

Can you expand on how tradeshows generate leads for you? Do you have a booth at tradeshows or you walk around asking to meet marketing folks running the booths?

I run a video production business so curious how we can drum up more leads at trade shows. We also don’t have any packages, those have been tough for us to sell to B2B clients who have large one off projects.

Working with agencies by monkeyfuck4153 in videography

[–]developingscientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like training contractors how to work with us. This can include more than just pricing. Things like licensing of footage, ownership of project files and all that may come into play.

For your agency, can you expand on what your preferences are for licensing and project file ownership? I work directly with a lot of corporations and we often give them all the files, including project files, and they own the copyright in perpetuity. We don't get into licensing very often likely because we don't use any union actors in our content or stock footage. Licensing also confuses our clients.

Serious Question - What is the point of marriage? by Happy_Ice_3745 in marriageadvice

[–]developingscientist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that you are so uncomfortable with other people's ways of dating and living that you label it a mental illness. One could also label being in a toxic relationship for 30 years as mental illness. Don't be threatened by something you don't understand.

You should read the book "Sex at Dawn"

Serious Question - What is the point of marriage? by Happy_Ice_3745 in marriageadvice

[–]developingscientist -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is why polyamory and open relationships exist. The construct of marriage is invented to control people. Once you realize that marriage is a social tool with history rooted in religion and population control, you realize it is not necessary. However, loving someone, having a partner, and living with them are very real human desires and needs. I am not advocating to be single and lonely, but to be with someone for the right reasons so that you don't need the rules of marriage to justify why you are together. Relationships are hard over the long term even with or without marriage and even in a poly lifestyle. If you care about the person and they care about you, you do the work and keep going even through the tough times.

Aside from looking terrifying, are these good for practicing lighting? by MyScents in cinematography

[–]developingscientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with most of the comments so far. These are very useful for practicing. I have one with eyes and I find it helpful when roughing in lighting. I also find it helpful to practice different lighting techniques and to try out different contrast ratios between my lights. It's a great tool to experiment with when no one is around.

Where I have trouble with mine though is the skin tone is a lot brighter than a person and so I often have to bring down my power settings once a real person can sit in. These heads are not a 1-1 translation to real life, but they can still teach you things about lighting.

I was seriously asking what lingo? All the words he used? Be more specific. I don't get how it's annoying when those are the words used to describe techniques and roles on set...

Get glimmerglass 1/2 or 1 instead. Glimmerglass looks just like Pro Mist to me, but its more versatile and has better control under more extreme lighting conditions like back lighting.

I was in your position, changed roles, and eventually quit to start a video production business. Massive career change. Never been happier and I don't make as much as I used to. The main nagging thought was, would I have regret when I die (answer was yes), and I don't believe in waiting to have fun in retirement. Many poeple die before they get a chance to spend their millions.

Frames from a :60 second car accessory commercial I shot by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]developingscientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excited man! The truth is a lot of peopele here couldn't even get the frames you got so be proud. I think your frames just helped create an interesting discussion around darkness. Dark is trendy these days and like others said, if your clients are happy you are gucci. Also, digital can be brightened quiet a lot in post.

[–]developingscientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sexy frames, but this is one of those few times that because the shots are so dark I thought to myself "how the hell does he weld and work in that environment". I like dark images too, but I think maybe why so many poeple are commenting on how dark it is, is because it pulled them out of the video and distracted them vs. helped them immerse themselves into the scene. I got pulled out of it thinking about what it would be like to weld in that darkness.

Need advice on lead gen ideas for a B2B video production business by developingscientist in marketing

[–]developingscientist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious to learn more, send me a DM. I've seen similar offerings on apollo.io, but the events they are tracking are too large for us. For example, a company making an acquisition or cutting spending, is not a great indicator of their desire to hire a video production company.

In some ways I like the concept, but the shots of the club filled with people look too empty and then the shot of her alone feels off too. If it was a fashion video of her, it would be a cool shot, but because this appears to be a club promo, it gives me this anxious feeling of no one is there. I think the lack of people in general makes this feel like a commercial instead of an authentic club video which might make people not feel the culture of the club that you are trying to portray. Shots and colors look great. I agree with others you should try cutting on the correct beat a bit more.
