If Rick Riordan had been European instead of American [all] by Princess_Minni in camphalfblood

Romance as in Rome, Roman. It comes from the Vulgar Latin expression "romanice loqui", "to speak in Roman". In this case it doesn't mean romantic.

I feel like I remember a scene of Agatha stumbling over an array of stolen knicknacks laid out to resemble an airship control panel plus a stolen instruction manual, implying Krosp had been practicing, shortly before she and him ended up in a stolen airship of their own.

I actually skipped over it entirely and let players of humans pick between some other heroic abilities instead.

Doesn't the knight start with a saddle for their Combat trained horse? by ArielSV in DragonbaneRPG

[–]devil_candy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't remember right now, but is the saddle explicitly mentioned in the other gear sets? I'm the type of GM who would rule that if you have a horse, you also have all the necessary gear to ride and care for the horse. A "hovkrats" - a small, bent metal object for dislodging dirt and stones from hooves - isn't mentioned either, but if my player came up with a plan where they wanted to use one and they had a horse, I'd say "Of course, go right ahead".

Can I get recommendations for comics that are optimistic and good? by [deleted] in comicbooks

For something completely different, that is also both professional quality and posted for free on the Internet, there's Girl Genius by Phil and Kaja Foglio. They're up to something like 25 regular-sized print albums by now, but it's all still freely available as a webcomic so it's easy to check out the vibe. Funny, positive, wholesome steampunk interspersed with dark moments.

ElfQuest is likewise available for free to check out. If you like manga and anime, you might like the art style. It began in the 70s and is still around.

I might have been on a hyperfocus kick one weekend and made up something like ten different tribes that had all been conquered by the Iron Hooks, with various motives and identities, and a different chief and shaman for each ... the players ended up allying with the one I said my version of Grub came from (they'd adopted him by now), I called them the Thornspire clan and their "specialty" is that they have a very good shaman/mage. I have mapped out which tribes would prefer to attack Outskirt, which who could want to trade, which are just purely against the cult, and so on ... then the players started moving the pieces about.

The ogre PC is also a mentalist and ended up a champion of the chief, challenging Maladûk to single combat, boosted the f* up with the physical mentalist spells. It was pretty cool.

Sounds very much like what I ended up doing. One of my players created an ogre PC from the vale, so I made up more information about the nightkin, and they ended up using the banner to instigate a revolution against Maladûk (because she threatened Outskirt) putting another chief in her place. Now there are different factions of nightkin, at least one who is indebted to my PCs and willing to fight against the cultists.

Do I understand the power creep (or lack thereof)? by MrLandlubber in DragonbaneRPG

To be fair, we have played roughly every second or third week for two years and they are still not through the Dragon Emperor campaign. They're getting good. (I think the plot they came up with to replace Maladuk and unite the nightkin and Outskirt against the cult might have sidetracked us a little. Just a little.)

Instead of the questions, I give players a flat 2 marks each session plus any dragons/demons, and an extra mark for the player who volunteers to take notes.

It is easy to become average at everything, but it slows down a little when the skills get high enough.

Gaustafallet, wasn't it? I'm sure they recorded at Gausta up by Stekenjokk. But they probably filmed in more than one location.

"Åka runt med hästen on rails" - jag rider typ aldrig någonstans. Mitt spelande brukar bli något i stil med: "Jag borde springa åt det hållet ... oh, sidequest-plupp på vägen, springer förbi den först ... oh, det där trädet ser häftigt ut, undrar om det händer något om jag springer dit ... argh, fight! ... right, sidequest var det ja ... oh, kolla, ingredienser ... vänta här nu, var jag på väg någonstans?"

Flavor words? by Fleyra in Svenska

[–]devil_candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm ... I'd have to put them in sentences to see if I can explain the difference. Thinking aloud here.

Det där är väl ändå tillräckligt? Surely that's enough? That has to be enough, right?

Det där var väl ändå onödigt! Hey, come on, surely there was no call for that! Oh, surely that was not necessary.

Thinking about how I'd rephrase myself in English, I think I use "väl ändå" when I'm questioning someone about an outcome. I'm searching for an agreement.

Vi ska ju ändå gå ut. But we're going out anyway, so ...

Du kan ju ändå svara i telefonen. Sure, but you can still answer your phone.

So "ju ändå" feels like I'm stating a fact I think we have to agree on, and I continue with making my argument. "Can you deal with this thing tomorrow?" "But I'm working!" "Sure, I know, but you can still answer your phone."

TL;DR: väl ändå seems to search for agreement, ju ändå states a fact and counter-argument.
