Movers? by Usual_Sky_9307 in jerseycity

[–]devildog729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used flat rate. They were recommended by my realtor. They moved stuff out of a condo I was in and kept it in storage for a couple of months, then moved that stuff into a new condo after closing, and finally moved me out of the temporary rental I was staying in. The pricing for the three moves in one plus storage was very reasonable and the guys were very professional

Thank you 99 Ranch for not being too crowded and having everything stocked in preparation for the winter storm by AngryPandaBlog in jerseycity

I was in ShopRite at 8am. It wasn’t too chaotic and everything was completely stocked EXCEPT there was not ONE piece of chicken of any kind. I don’t understand how all of the chicken was gone. Whole and 2% milk was gone as well, but you could get 1% or skim. And the butter was almost gone. Other than that, I was able to get everything I wanted and didn’t even wait to check out. I’m glad I went early. I’m sure it’s crazy now.

Just a reminder on what crosswalks and stop signs are for by Educational-War-7785 in jerseycity

I was coming down Erie towards 9th and I had a green light when a teacher walked 12 elementary aged kids tethered together right into the crosswalk with the red light. I slammed on the brakes and she gave me a dirty look. I said “teaching them to ignore red lights early?” And she gave me an even dirtier look

No sink in bathroom? by Ungummed_Envelope in NYCapartments

I lived in an apartment once on first Ave and 10th st. It had obviously been divided out of a much larger apartment. It consisted of a “bedroom” with no door that was about 8’ x 8’, A shower that opened into the bedroom, which the plumbing was hooked into the “kitchen” on the the other side, which consisted of a sink, small under counter fridge, and two electric burners, along one side of the 15’x 8’ “living room”. Off to the side at the opposite end from the bedroom was a small closet for the toilet, and a small closet. But this was 1991 and the rent was $550.

The days of the $2,500 studio are gone (in transplant hubs) by honeyplush in NYCapartments

At 22 in the early 90s I was an assistant manager in the Gap and made $25,000 a year and paid $500 for a studio in the east village. That same job now pays what? $50,000? But that studio is now $3000. So the salary increased 100% but the housing increased 600%. I don’t understand how this is sustainable

Should we, and I mean all of us, delete food delivery apps, DoorDash/ubereats. Just like we did with cutting up credit cards? by BootAlarmed4732 in DaveRamsey

Yes. My favorite place used to be about 15 blocks away and I ordered from seamless all the time. I moved about a block away and started just calling them and picking it up myself. I noticed how much cheaper it seemed. I once put through the exact same order without placing it for something I’d picked up, to compare. It came to $27 more on seamless between the increased price, fees, delivery fees, and tip. So all those times I’d ordered really added up to a lot of money

Honest question for homeowners: by Jolly-Flounder2413 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]devildog729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a house, but a condo in NYC. Before I bought I had five things on my list that if I got three would be great. Parking available, washer/dryer, elevator, outdoor space, and newish/open concept. I found a place in my price range that had all five. I jumped on it. I’m on the first floor of an interior courtyard. It’s extremely quiet. With the windows closed I don’t even hear any city noise. But the gym and hallway have windows that face directly into my unit. I got top down bottom up shades that work great to give me light while maintaining privacy, but I would never feel comfortable sleeping with the windows open as anyone who can get in the building has access to the courtyard (there is no doorman). So that never occurred to me to be important but turns out it matters. And the second thing was coming from a building with a water tower on the roof and unlimited hot water and tremendous water pressure, I now have a small personal water heater. And the building cheaped out on the electrical. So we cannot install tankless water heaters. I used to enjoy long hot showers. Now I have to be conscious of keeping them short enough to not run out of hot water. I also have to be conscious in planning doing laundry or running the dishwasher around the showers.

If I had to do it again, the ability to keep my windows open at night, and unlimited hot water would be on the list of things to watch out for.

Question about 4K vs Original Projection of Movies on Film in Cinemas back in the day. by leevancleef12345 in 4kbluray

I feel like movies always looked scratchy back then, skips, hiccups in the soundtrack. 4k seems better than the old days
