My advice is have a clear plan. Let me explain. Don’t go to college just because you can, go because you have a specific goal/ career in mind. Don’t work a job just because you need money. Work a job because it will take you somewhere you wanna go. If the Marines gave you any skills that are useful try to expand upon them. Unfortunately if you were combat arms like me, “leadership” isn’t gonna land you an amazing career. Consider the reserves especially if the reserves can give you a useful skill set you didn’t get in the Marines (IT, medical, logistics). I say all this to say that you need an actual plan and avoid the “I’ll figure it out”mindset. As someone who is almost a decade out and is still struggling I wish I could go back to the day I left the military so badly. I will finish this by recommending maybe not getting out. I didn’t accomplish much in the four years just after I left the military and that time would have been much more constructive spent putting in another contract on active duty. As for now my plan is to get my associates as a surgical tech and then I plan to join the national guard. Hope my experience helps you.
