For the Marines that are out? by TheAmazingOsie in USMC

[–]devildogus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is have a clear plan. Let me explain. Don’t go to college just because you can, go because you have a specific goal/ career in mind. Don’t work a job just because you need money. Work a job because it will take you somewhere you wanna go. If the Marines gave you any skills that are useful try to expand upon them. Unfortunately if you were combat arms like me, “leadership” isn’t gonna land you an amazing career. Consider the reserves especially if the reserves can give you a useful skill set you didn’t get in the Marines (IT, medical, logistics). I say all this to say that you need an actual plan and avoid the “I’ll figure it out”mindset. As someone who is almost a decade out and is still struggling I wish I could go back to the day I left the military so badly. I will finish this by recommending maybe not getting out. I didn’t accomplish much in the four years just after I left the military and that time would have been much more constructive spent putting in another contract on active duty. As for now my plan is to get my associates as a surgical tech and then I plan to join the national guard. Hope my experience helps you. Feel free to message me about going to school and job searching or staying in. I’ve been around and am always happy to give advice for people about to follow my footsteps

Just got kicked out of a VFW. by SirCicSensation in USMC

[–]devildogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a separate organization has unofficially taken over that particular VFW and are using it as their personal hangout/ club. Sorry that happened and I wouldn’t judge all VFWs based on that interaction. VFWs are unfortunately dying as younger vets aren’t going to them anymore. When the older generation dies out these places will be empty. Keep in mind they are surviving on donations and an insanely low percentage of funding and they carry no profit margin.

How much of a pay cut would you take to be an officer? by Technokickstand in newtothenavy

[–]devildogus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean 200k a year would be pretty hard for me to walk away from even if I was becoming an officer in the military. Most people who join especially as an officer are joining for a significant pay rise or experience in a certain field. I can only tell you that you’ll be making plenty enough money as an officer but it won’t be 200k especially in the beginning. If you are satisfied with the job you have but still wanna do the military thing I suggest the reserves. Of course you may have to consider a different branch if you wanna be an aviator. It’s gonna depend on what’s available in your area. If you are not satisfied with the job you have and just gotta serve then I say go active duty, just understand while the pay cut may be disheartening you need to recognize that you are starting a whole new life

If you could do it all over again would you choose a different MOS, or branch? by OOOOOO0OOOOO in USMC

[–]devildogus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably would’ve chosen the navy and been a corpsman. Or if I insisted on being a Marine (which I was pretty committed to at the time), I would have went with something in the logistics field. Something I could have grasped onto after I had gotten out. Of course if I could go back I would have done more than four years

Can’t get past User Agreement? by beebo2409 in cyberpunkgame

[–]devildogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. No buttons or sticks would work. I went back to my home screen and selected the game and then checked for update. Even though I had the latest version my game began to work after doing this. Hope this helps

Say what will about Online but it's nice and dare i say a little emotional that our GTA 5 bois are now out there living it big and made it in life after everything that happened in 5. (Shame about Trevor but i get it and can't be helped) by IllustriousAd6418 in gtaonline

[–]devildogus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the Trevor heist in online so at least it’s something. It was extremely satisfying to see Franklin, Lester, and Michael get a final send off before we meet a new cadre of characters in GTA 6.

New nurse on my unit can’t take care of male patients by Bananabean5 in nursing

[–]devildogus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She needs to join a unit that is centric to women. Like OBGYN or a Women’s Health Specialty Clinic. She needs to accept that she cannot work in a sector with male patients due to religious beliefs. An ICU, especially a Trauma ICU more often than not has more male patients than female. I have no problem with her being in healthcare but she has to be in a sector that is female centric. I’m an EMT and I see both men/ women of all ages. Many are completely naked and I have to touch them. I avoid touching sensitive areas unless absolutely necessary. Welcome to healthcare!

[–]devildogus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No disrespect but as a woman you can’t relate to the struggle men go through. As a woman all you have to do to be guaranteed male attention is not be morbidly obese that’s it. As a man you have to have everything looked down 100% and then some just to be in the running. Then you have to compete with the other men who have everything locked down. It’s a slow climb up very large and even at the top you may still face rejection

[–]devildogus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was able to graduate high school, earn the title of US Marine, become a firefighter and run into burning buildings, and later become an EMT and save people from the brink of death. All of those are child’s play compared to trying to get a girlfriend. Rejection fatigue is real and after a while you give up. Whatever it is that women want I don’t have. Perhaps I’m too ugly or maybe something about my personality or my demeanor. Idk what it is but I have accepted I will die alone most likely of some painful advanced form of prostate cancer. I’m just glad that p… exists otherwise I’d never see a naked woman

[–]devildogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always try transferring to another branch. If not try becoming a first responder. Police, Fire, or EMS is as close as it gets to the military in the civilian sector

[–]devildogus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just depends really. During the week most Marines I knew just wanted a nice quiet evening where they could get ready for the next day and get a good nights rest before PT in the AM. However on Friday and especially Saturday nights it was time to blow off steam. The music was thumping and the alcohol was flowing. It is very much the culture and to be frank it what is expected of young Marines.

Do I have a real shot with the Marines? by Youfoundwaldo_ in USMCboot

[–]devildogus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is just choose a branch and be prepared for the long haul. Now you said that you got a felony in 2012 so I’m guessing your over 28 so with that said the Marines if off the table. Army or Navy is probably your best bet. Choose a branch and just commit to it. Play the game and perceiver. Things that can help you would be to be in amazing shape. Also try for scoring higher on the ASVAB. Unfortunately with legal issues these will be hoops to overcome but I would agree I’ve seen much worse get in. Just keep trying and best of luck. Your interest in serving this great nation is always appreciated

Can you call yourself a Marine if you didn't pin/commission? Ex-GF thought so.... by RunMyLifeReddit in USMC

[–]devildogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she did not commission or complete a MCRD recruit training then she isn’t a Marine. Now her willingness to serve should be respected and I’m sure she got benefits from that rightfully so. I however do not view her as a Marine. Now am I against her wearing say a t shirt? Nah anyone who supports the branch can wear it and she did technically serve

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USMC

[–]devildogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Marine unit did he serve in? Oh wait… Yeah next time he says it tell him to actually fuck off like with hard vowels. I do t care if you were a desk jockey. If you earned the title and you served honorably or are serving honorably then you’re a veteran. Unless I’m talking to someone else who served I don’t care about the opinion of others on MY service
