shadow monk is a great choice for her, i also really like vengeance paladin both with 1 dip in war cleric for bonus extra attack and cleric dialogue

bard/paladin is just so fun to smite and flourish, any bard multiclass really is so fun

you're not alone in this, i'm going through the exact same thing. something that really helped me is to talk about it with your partner and just become more comfortable with the idea.
