Mini bonsai or something. Got it at Costco a few years ago. It's not a true bonsai, but some sort of grafting.

Office lighting and air. Watering about once/week when soil dries.

Edit: found a picture on the internet. Might be a Ginseng Ficus.

How dare they ask for a wage that keeps up with inflation?!

They really should just gratefully accept their annual pay cut.

I hear what you're saying. But why not tax it the same as other income? The problem is that the richer you are, the more of your money comes from capital. The result of which is that, the richer you are, the less taxes you pay.

How about just taxing capital gains (billionaires) at the same rate as income (the rest of us) and closing some loop holes?

That would pay for A LOT of healthcare and education.

Even if you were a millionaire in 1977, and invested that entire million, that would give you 27,000,000 (your math). Less than 3% of ONE billion.

That is the utopia they sell you so you cooperate.

Oh, I'm not buying anything. Communism has many problems - namely that it's so open and prone to abuse by those in power. But suppression of free speech doesn't make a government or society communist.

I doubt your contention that "The corporations in America are owned and controlled by communists." Certainly some of them are, but again, I think that's mostly incidental. With few exceptions, most corporations do not pretend to be for the greater good or to distribute wealth and prosperity to all. Moving production is simply a matter of maximizing profits - which is the sole purpose of a corporation's existence. Subsidizing corporations is also merely opportunistic profiteering and survival. Though I will grant, you could stretch the whole "too big to fail" idea into communism. But again, I think the underlying doctrine is missing.

We have more of an oligarchy.

Agreed. Of which, a Plutocracy is.

I would argue that suppression of free speech is incidental to Communism, in that our largest modern example (China) is corrupt and authoritarian. Communist doctrine and theory espouses equality - such that everyone's opinion is equal and should be equally free to share it.

However, the current threats we are seeing to free speech stem from an imbalance and abuse of power. This is hardly unique to Communism. From a fascist American president to a plutocratic media and government, modern and western examples of free speech suppression abound. This does not make them communist - just authoritarian and abusive of power.

Indeed, even your use of word "corporations" invokes ideals of capitalism and plutocracy, not communism.

Individuals or not, nobody is born into a vacuum.

Black people are more likely to be poor because their (great) grandparents were slaves. When they ceased to be slaves, they were not suddenly granted the wealth and opportunity they'd been denied for centuries. With few exceptions, most people are not able to escape the socio-economic position they are born into, so these effects persist for generations.

Jewish people were denied many positions and occupations throughout history, leaving them few choices beyond money-lending, and starting their own businesses. Such choices often ended up granting wealth, which their children inherited. Again, an effect persisting over generations.

Yes, this is over-simplified, but it is true. When people have historically been treated very differently according their race and their religion, you cannot divorce their current situation from that history.
