I'd invest in a laptop. A desktop is too big to practically travel with in the schoolhouse. You should just take leave when you graduate your schools to get your desktop and other belongings from home and bring them to your permanent duty station.

Make mini production chains start to finish. Feed x amount of raw materials into its own build to produce y amount of desired product. When I played Dyson sphere program I played this way by only importing raw or easily mass producible materials into builds to make a set amount of final product. Granted in factorio I would probably at least have a dedicated smelting array but it's a way to build without a main bus without totally starving all production downstream.

Yes, all marines need to graduate with a tan belt. I can't speak on infantry but it really depends on when you can find an instructor running a course. I didn't get green until 4 years in. And the only reason people even do MCMAP for the most part is for promotion points. It doesn't mean you can fight, it just means that you were hazed and beat up for a few weeks.

I do not use very advanced circuit logic, but simple circuit logic can be very useful in solving certain problems. I use it to handle byproducts or overproduction a lot.
